Im not doing your research. You are stupid but not that stupid.
Gavin MacMillan does his own thing and kudos to him. There are different ways with different coaches and athletes.

I agree. Crossfit is a sport in it's own right, and not just lifting.
Now I love powerlifting myself, and believe a mix of Powerlifting, and Olympic lifting would yeild the best results, but even then you have to program the training around the athletes sport, and most athletes will never make it beyond the intermediate phase, so you can't expect a boxer to become an elite powerlfter.

Simply put. Get stronger, and practice your sport.
Crossfit has you lift, and then do other non lifting exercises.
You also will not get as strong doing crossfit, and you would Powerlifting, or Oly lifting due to the extra fluff that takes away from getting stronger, and high volume/low weight style of training.

Also any lifting done in camp would have to be low volume as not to fatigue your punching. Crossfit having you do a gazzilion push presses, and burpees is going to be too much volume.

Tyson was rumored to have been pretty bad at other sports.
Him getting good at football or basketball would have been zero help.
Crossfit is a sport that utilizes some olympic lifting movements.

Being good at boxing is the best thing a boxer can do to get better at boxing. Getting stronger is useful, but crossfit is not the most effective way to do this.

Yes being stronger helps, but some who gain poop tons of weight such as shannon briggs when he fought around 275 are hindering themselves because of the extra conditioning it requires to move a body that big around a ring.
Getting stronger and staying in your weight class can only be helpful though, so I guess I'm actually in agreement, but just adding to it.

The problem as a said before is that crossfit is a poor way to get stronger unless you never lifted.
Take an Olympic powerlifter, and watch all thier lifts tank after a few weeks on crossfit programming.

Tyson was an absolute beast, who had massive amounts of power/strength and explosiveness and size.

Long story short, he was a complete freak athlete.

We're not talking about getting good at otehr sports.

We're talking about improving core strength, explosiveness, hip flexibility, strengthening legs.

You think these things wont help a boxer?

Crossfit helps those things. He'll still be the same boxer, with the same skillset but now he should be more powerful and an all round better athlete.

Its not really crossfit I was getting at anyway. Its more what was said in the video. Guererro had never had a proper S+C coach, and couldnt even do a pull up. Thats awful for a professional athlete and cannot be beneficial being that weak and unathletic

I am 47 and I already had injuries from motorcycle road racing. Broke my pelvis twice, broken shoulder etc etc. What really surprised me about CrossFit is the amount of yoga and stretching we do.

If you're getting injured, especially at this age, you should really consider changing your program.

Crossfit practioners are especially at risk for things like SLAP tears when doing those kipping pull ups.

Most people say SLAP tears can only be fixed through surgery. You could also try prolotherapy as an alternative.

Most of what you descibed can be achieved with attaining a strong back squat.
Something that does not need crossfit to attain.
Yes c-fit will make you strong, but no it will not make you as strong as a powerlifter, or Olypic lifter.
PL'ers, and OLYlifter have stronger cores btw.
If you have have a 500lb squat you will have a stronger core than a guy with a 315 squat who is a burpee, and l-sit champ. This cannot be argued because the guy with the 315 squat will not have the core strength to unrack 500 most likely.
In reality a strong core is the expression of your trunk muscles(back/abdominal) working together to allow our spine to not collapse under a load.
    Think deadlifts/squats/standing press/cleans/etc.
C-FIT does do these, but they do them to marathon proportions, and not with absolute strength as a goal.

Now Dave Tate, Mark Bell, Louie Simmons, and Mark Rippetoe have at one point or another been used as strength coaches withing C-FIT, and this is good, but most c-fit gyms are not putting priority on strength the way they should, and as such those gyms are not churning out tons of 400lb squatters.

I understand what you are saying and I am keeping the weights low. However the pull-ups, rope stuff is hard. One thing I noticed it is that is real hard on your hands. Not as bad as when I boxed, but it is hard on your hands.

Like I said, the initial point wasnt even about Crossfit, its about boxers out there who have NEVER had a strength program of any sort.

Who wobnt lift because they believe it will "slow them down"

I'll add that having been to several powerlifting meets, and a crossfit meet there is not always a ton of good form being used in either sport. at the novice, and intermediate levels unfortunately.

Making sure your coach knows what he's talking about is important too.
There are a ton of bad coaches out there.
Don't just assume because they are strong, or in shape that they know what they are talking about.
