Of course boxers should be strong, but Crossfit is notorious for injuries. I would venture to say, a great deal of athletes retire due to tendon issues like tendinitis or tendonosis. Either that or tears like slap lesions or meniscus tears or a bad back. You can work hard and prevent issues like that by using kettlebells swings, kettlebell turkish get ups, advanced calisthenics, and yoga. You can become incredibly strong but retain mobility and God willing, keep your body free of injuries. If you got guys severing their spines in Crossfit, that sends me a red flag. Hopefully that guy recovers. Maybe modern technology will be able to bring him back one day.
I agree with you, small pecho. We just disagree on our methods to produce strength. However, a lot of boxers today have modern strength and conditioning coaches, so I'm not sure if that "stuck in the stone age" really applies to boxers today. Maybe guys from other countries, but most of the top guys today have S and C coaches. Obviously, Mayweather being the exception, but he's on TRT. He paid Pacquaio that MONEY to keep his records hushed.
Theres literally zero reason why they cant be both physically superior AND have the same skills if not better. Are NBA players less skilled now than in the 60s because they work out in weights room?
Boxing is the sport that's gone backwards not the Nba ..Boxers have regressed the reason for that is that there are too many short cuts for fighters these days ..I would agree there is no reason why they couldn't be physically superior and skilled but it doesn't happen.. Look at the most physically fit guys take Wlad for instance I'm sure he's strong and a fit athlete but the guy doesn't throw uppercuts ,can't bob and weave or fight on the inside..How about Jean Pascal..Let me know how skilled he is or even David Haye who has by far the worst foot work in Boxing I have ever seen..Boxing is the one sport that needs to go back to its roots not the other way around.
Almost all modern athletes/ athletic teams have strength and conditioning coaches, its one of the biggest demands in sports right now, a great strength and conditioning coach. Hence most teams have a Sport coach, who watches their EVENT SKILLS. And a S&C coach who monitors their OVERALL FITNESS, analyzing strengths and weaknesses in their ATHLETIC SKILLS. Fighters, especially older fighters who have boxed for so long get more from doing strength and conditioning workouts than boxing (bags, pads, low intensity distance running) workouts. Density training, high intensity sport specific, functional movement training and an overall better knowledge of what athletes require for nutrition has pushed athletic performance. Athletes are getting bigger, faster, stronger because we have better knowledge of the science of our bodies. Crossfit, while having its own separate programming, utilizes the tenets of density training and high intensity sport specific training, both of which develop Type II fast twitch muscles; these muscles being the ones which athletes need and which a lot of their athletic performance depends upon. (Think Sprinters body vs. distance runners body if you need proof) Remember, Crossfit utilizes numerous different training methodologies, how they combine these methods and how that trickles down to the various workouts they do is what makes up THEIR PROGRAMMING. Has Crossfit contributed to athletic injury? HELL YEAH! BUT the SCIENCE behind what they are doing is sound. High intensity, low rest, compound movements WILL make you a BETTER athlete.
I really think that CrossFit varies from gym to gym. However I totally agree with your opinion that doing CrossFit badly will mess you up big time.
You wish people would educate themselves ? Really ? Every hear of boxers chopping wood . Shoveling piles of sand or soil . Mmmm maybe there was no social media for them to take selfies of them doing there training. Big noting strength coaches over rate themselves. How many on here has ever been to a training camp ? All u have is media reports. ROFL.
Wow chopping wood and shoveling sand and soil. You forgot to mention laying brick pyramids, hurling bales of hay on a tractor and chasing chicken in the alleys. Great training methods. Social media and selfies? What on earth are you going about?! atsch Why the hell are people so against advancements in athletic performance and science is beyond me. The staple of any boxing workout is doing boxing training of course , i dont know why anyone would argue that, no one is talking about that. We are talking bout helping boxer become a better, stronger and a faster athlete in other training sessions. I have been boxing all my life and i cant even begin to tell you all the stupid **** i went through in my training, and i was an amateur. Think of what goes on at club level... I know and its frightening.
lol ive seen their pullups, i videod some pullups i did end of a workout and they are way more effective
