If you know how to fight at long range and know how use your reach advantage effectively, then you have a decent chance of giving Manny problems. You don't have to move backward much, but if you can keep the fight at long distance and force him to lung/leap in and out, then you'd have a better chance of timing his rhythm and gets your shots off first.

You're not going to beat Manny to the punch first by exchanging punches with him at close range, he'll fully have the advantage of utilizing his speed advantage and gets his shots off easily. As i said, to neutralize Manny's speed, you must force him to fight at long range. It takes certain Boxers like Floyd and JMM to pull it off, it requires that you have good fundamental techniques, timing, punching accuracy, and ring intelligence.

 

The sparring was in 2005 Pac was still a featherweight then, how is that any relevant to the current Pacquiao

True or not, Manny is a mid-range fighter so opponents with good range and timing should give him problems.

However, that doesn't mean that the long ranged fighter will get the upper hand.
He will just more problems for Manny than the usual complete domination that shows over his opponents , that's all.

 

sparring is sparring. you do it to achieve or to familiarize a certain style. if you don't follow what you are supposed to do then the sparring is useless.
