The McCarty fight was a draw, McCarty fought it under the name of Walter Monahan ,Jack Johnson's sparring partner. It was McCarty's first year as a fighter. Levinsky was a middleweight when he fought Clark. Both he and McCarty had under 8 fights each to their name Wills was also a novice. Its funny how the threadmaker confidently avers Clark was" very underated "[he may well have been], yet a guy he fought three times and never beat ,getting two draws and being stopped in the other was ,according to him, "a journeyman". Battling Jim Johnson is the man.. There's no mystery why Clark did not get a title shot he was too inconsistant and also black. . Clark beat Langford a couple of times ,[ himself not always consistant], he also was beaten by Bert Kenney ,a Johnson sparring partner, and drew with Kid Cutler, another Johnson sparring partner. Clark beat Kid Norfolk once , he also was beaten by him 5 times and held to a draw three times. Given his up and down form ,you have to wonder how many of his regular playmates were going full out in some of those contests.?
