For me I would have him take a break prior to the Ruiz fight and have that fight in December. Give him as much recovery from the TKO as possible. After he beats Ruiz I would give him 3 fights next year to gain momentum. My understanding is WBO mandatory is due this year. However Usyk is injured and I believe he will want atleast 1 heavyweight fight first. I can’t see fury being happy with a challenger split of pursebids and Whyte will likely be WBC mandatory. Fight 1 - Pulev mandatory at Cardiff to rebuild some momentum. Fight March 2020 Fight 2 - Usyk at Wembley. Toughest fight for AJ in my opinion but he wins this he gains a lot of credibility back. July 2020 Fight 3 - Ortiz at MSG. Fight a Wilder opponent who will be another year older and looking for a final payday. Take this straight back to the US for AJ and exorcise the US demons ASAP. Those are 4 dangerous fights a very good chance he will lose at least one of them...why take that risk? A safer plan is getting in excellent shape, posting photos and videos on social media, an affair with Malinaggi sidepeice to trigger the Sicilian into saying something catchy on a live show, then proceed with 4 George Foreman 2.0 type reliable opponents and Foreman as an advisor, KO all 4, pay Andy Ruiz $ to say Anthony Joshua is the hardest puncher he faced and specify that he punches much harder than Wilder (Wilder has to KO Ruiz for this to work and justify avoiding a risky rematch), use the low IQ DKSAB peasants to press for an immediate fight vs Wilder...
Simple. Beat Ruiz Jr in MSG at the rematch this year. Beat Ortiz after Wilder demolishes him. That would have earned Wilder's respect and a fight would be made. AJ doesnt need to actively fight anyone else other than those 3. He needs to be the new Lion In Wilder's kingdom and not Eddie Hearn's sheep. Earn the respect of Wilder and the fight will happen.
Assuming Wilder will stay undefeated is a huge assumption… The ‘mega-fight’ is gone . That’s not to say the wreckage won’t be pieced together, shined up for appearances and marketed as a ‘mega-fight’ a few years and many miles from now...It most likely will. And I’m sure most will pretend Humphry Dumpty isn’t covered in glue. My guess is Wilder will make sure we need a whole lot more glue.
Well first thing I would is have a very good talk with Joshua and his trainer. I would want to know how he felt before and during the fight. What do they feel went wrong, because then you can work towards such mistakes. I personally feel that Joshua is too muscular. Maybe calm down on the weight lifting etc and work on conditioning a bit more. I believe Joshua can beat Ruiz and beat him quite convincingly, but once he does, then he would have to box the likes of Wilder etc, which is a complete different kind of monster. I would get the ruiz fight back. That might be the best thing for Joshua. Lennox for example, even though he never got a beat down, but the mentality was strong enough to instantly want rematches when things went wrong. It all depends on the mentality of Joshua.
Marinating fights in HW doesnt work. These big guys get KOed before mega fights even happen. By the time AJ rebuilds Wilder will be KOed
