Guillard Fires Back, Doesn't Think Florian Is Worthy

"Look, Kenny's had his chance a couple of times, you know. I like Kenny, I don't really want to get into this whole argument about Kenny, but he's had his shot twice. He's had his chance. He had his time. He blew it. He didn't make it. Obviously, he's probably not meant to be a champion, but for some reason they put him up in the top 5."

"Of course he's calling me out now, I just knocked out Dunham who on paper was ranked higher than me. I felt [Florian] didn't even deserve to fight Dunham. If it wasn't me, somebody else should have had that shot before Kenny. Kenny's had his shot over and over again."

"Honestly, I'm the guy to beat. So at the end of the day, I'm going to fight who I think deserves to fight me. It's no disrespect to Kenny, but he doesn't have that "X" factor. He can't break through that wall, that barrier, so I'd rather fight some other guys."

"Truthfully, I would destroy Kenny Florian. I think Kenny Florian would be an easier fight than Evan Dunham. It could be stand-up, wrestling, whatever. Yeah, his jiu-jitsu is better than mine, but Evan Dunham's was too. If guys can't submit me, they can't beat me. That was the only way I was losing fights in the beginning. So, if you ask me, he doesn't have better striking, he doesn't have better wrestling, he's not even close in judo, so what other elements does he present that would be a problem for me? Nobody's presenting problems as far as the jiu-jitsu anymore because I'm calm and I'm not making mistakes anymore, so I'm not worried about that."

No you wouldn't, Melvin. You're getting ahead of yourself. Shut it down.

Put him in with Sherk. Makes perfect sense.

Florian is coming off a loss, and Guillard is riding a four fight win streak, so it's not a far-fetched fight.

I think Melvin could win. Kenny has a bad habit of getting out muscled and Guillard is strong as ****

Id take Florian he is a more well rounded fighter. Kenny has the type of leg kicks that would slow down a fast footed guy like Guillard who likes to box. Just simply by mixing up his strikes actually would make Guillard easier to takedown for KenFlo. On the ground if Ken kept him down what chance does Guillard have really ? Kenny has sick GNP and Jiujitsu. Guillard's only good chance is to make Kenny look horrible on his feet and knock him out but Florian has such good movement and a great chin (Chris Leben couldnt even hurt him at 185). Florian would be by far the best fighter Guillard has ever beat.

Hes right. Guillard is an easy project for Greg Jackson. Make it hard to take him down and learn "prevent" BJJ. He'll shred everone standing up because his handspeed and power is elite boxer level.

    He'll destroy Kenny.

Yeah, that's a great idea. A battle with Sherk would show us whether or not Guillard is ready to challenge for the belt. Hell, Sherk is only one good win away from another title shot. Lightweight is really wide open now that Edgar dethroned Penn. I would like to see if Edgar can defend his belt against this crop of killers coming after him. Personally - I think he can.

I'm inclined to agree. I think Guillard's speed will confuse the hell out of Florian. However - Kenny definitely has the better jiujitsu. If he could work his ground game he can definitely catch Melvin in something - especially if Melvin is starting to think he's "unsubmittable" again.

I would think that they are working on his td defense and some bjj as we type on here. I have never seen anyone as explosive as Melvin on his feet, I mean hes like Floyd in the ring with Pacs tenacity. What he always needed was a good coach and team to harness all that talent.

lol I would love to see this fight. Guillard has the advantage when they're striking but sooner or later kenny would get him to the ground and i could see kenny choking him out.

Guillard would have the speed advantage but Kenny has okay boxing. He has worked on it alot and continues to improve. I don't like Guillard very much technically. I think he is very athletic and I'm not too sure about his balance and technique. KenFlo might be able to exploit these areas.

Like you say, if it goes to the ground KenFlo has good jits and guillard is suspect there.

For a long time, Kenny has only lost to the best. Is Guillard in the same company as the old Sherk, BJ and Gray OR is he more suited to Gomi, Guida, Stevenson, Huerta, Lauzon, Thomas and Stout?

KenFlo underperforms so spectacularly on the big stage that people forget what he does in between those bouts.

Like ive stated Florian would have his hands full with Guillard ............... to the point where your thinking what would be Kenny's strategy against Guillard ???

If Florian cannot get this fight to the ground whats stopping Guillard running through him the way he did Dunham ??? , thats my theory , Kenny's weakness is his boxing , his stand up is solid in all departments yes and he's very well rounded but his boxing still isnt great , and i see Guillard KO'ing Florian utilising un predictable in out movements at lightning fast pace .

I think its a fight that Zahavi and Florian should run away from (providing he is now Kenny's full time head coach) until Guillard knocks another 1 or 2 top LW's over , then he may have no choice but to fight him !!!!

That said id love to see this fight man
