I think yes. He has an amazing skillset, is one of the most accomplished amateurs ever, and the opportunities at and around his division are plenty. And although he is a little bit old his style is well suited for longevity. Just imagine how big a fight JuanMa vs Rigondeaux could be in 2 years time if they both stay undefeated during that period? anyways, what are your thoughts on this prospect. I don't think i'll miss a single fight of his Also, I think his punchstats in terms of connect pecentages for/against will be even better than floyds. Thats how highly i think of him who is his promoter?
Greatness? Let me check my cristal ball. OH wait , he is Cuban right?? I will read the cigar ashes better. hehehehehehe Just kidding!!! Who knows?? May be.
I think he took too long to defect and at his age he better be doing a Shumenov and fight for a belt by his 10th fight as a pro if he wants to leave an impacting legacy. His extansive amateur career has put more miles on him than just about any pro that's only had 2 fights.
definitely. the guy is awesome technically, he's got good power, incredible amateur background. he'll have a title by his 10th fight most likely. :thumbsup
from what i've seen so far in his 4 round pro career against developmental level competition has been excellent, but I wouldn't go so far as to say destined for greatness just yet. he's certainly headed in that direction with his legendary amateur career behind him though
true. i'd say he's on the level of a guy with 15 pro fights or more. the amateur experience speaks volumes.
he wants to go for a title by his 6th-8th fight. I'd guess that by Aug. 2010 he will already be a title holder at only 29. I think he would undoubtedly beat Dunne if they fought today, although Dunne isn't a real titleholder.
He's got a style you don't normally see in the ring, and he picks his punches really well. I think he can be a world champ someday, him and Lara
First of all he's already regarded as a legend and one of the finest amateurs ever, he's already a 'great'. Of course prizefighting is a whole different game and there's no guarantee he'll make it here too, but if he can, he'll be among those very few who managed to reach greatness in both forms of boxing.
Also, I think his punchstats in terms of connect pecentages for/against will be even better than floyds. Thats how highly i think of him. Of course he will be better than Floyd, GUARANTEED. Rigondeaux is 2 time Olympic Gold medalist and many times World Champion plus 7 times Cuban National Champion which is extremely hard to achieve and is very comparable to the Olympics...when has Floyd done that? Floyd was just a bronze medalist, period and look at how far he went? Another thing, the Cuban fighter that Floyd beat in the amateurs was not a Cuban star, he beat a unknown Cuban in lorenzo Aragon... Floyd would have never beaten the top Cubans... Rigondeaux is already a living legend and if manages to do the same in the pros which I believe that he will easily do then he will be even more great! No body can stop this kid from Santiago de Cuba and I mean nobody...bring them all on! Lopez, Caballero, John, Rojas, heck even Gamboa! ... they will all get whipped by this beast from Oriente!!! :bart
I think Guillermo could beat Dunne next week, no kidding. I honestly think that he can rule 122 within a year. Caba and Juanma will probably move up, as will Vasquez and Marquez. I would think Guillermo and Nishioka would be the only two fighters of genuine class and that would be a decent match-up six to eight months down the line. He is 5'7. quite tall for a super-bantam imo. His calmness is down to his sheer understanding of boxing. He knows what he's doing, feels he as tricks up his sleeve to counter any attack, and if he has a good chin he will undoubtedly have a chance to be an ATG. He needs to get a move on. Ponce De Leon or Jhonny Gonzalez within five fights me thinks. He should be getting belts within his first ten fights and moving up after defences within his 20th. He has serious skills but will need to do what Casamayor did and fight til late on into his 30's; This man is seriously skilled an intelligent, the sky is genuinely the limit (IF HE HAS GOOD PUNCH RESISTANCE)
Mabey. On the plus side he is very talented and has that Cuban training and experance. On the minus side he is allready 28 so time is against him. I think he will be a top 10 P4Per in his career but as far as being a ATG? We will have to wait and see.
What is it about Rigondeaux that you don't think is that great Pea? I thought you'd like his style?? He has fought NO ONE yet but I think he's clear to see he knows what he's doing, and his Amateur pedigree (and his style as an amateur) would lend well to him succeeding as a pro.
From what I have seen of him, I think that we are looking at a very special talent. The type of talent that comes around only a handful of times in a generation. This guys awareness of space, angles and balance is amongst the very best that I have ever seen. Some people say that he is too old to achieve anything, but in boxing terms, is he actually that old? He's been an amateur so he hasn't been in war after war. I wouldn't even think that he is at his physical peak yet. Mark my words, this guy is going to make some serious waves in the very near future.
