    RIGONDEAUX RETURNS ON WEDNESDAY VS RAFAEL TIRADO (24-7, 16KOs)

    Rigo's will fight for the 4th time as a pro on Wednesday if boxrec is correct. His opponent will be veteran Rafael Tirado in a scheduled 8 rounder. Tirado's record is nothing solid, though he did pick up a minor title a few years back. Rigondeaux' NABF title will be not on the line.

    RIGO WINS 4TH BOUT, HYDE WINS MANAGERIAL RIGHTS!

    (From main page) Guillermo Rigondeaux stayed calm and collected, and in doing so notched his fourth pro win in as many fights, with an eight round unanimous decision win over Lante Addy. The bout headlined Thursday’s Broadway Boxing event from the BB King Blues Club & Grill in New York City. Rigondeaux (4-0, 3 KOs), a Cuban native who won two Olympic gold medals for his homeland prior to defecting earlier this year, wasted no time establishing his supremacy. In the opening minute of the bout, a straight left from the Freddie Roach-trained southpaw, Rigondeaux, put Addy on his back. However, the game challenger rose, and continued to look for spots to counter Rigondeaux’s assault.

    As the fight wore on it became apparent that Addy (6-5-1, 4 KOs), originally from Ghana but now based in the United States, simply didn’t have the firepower to match Rigondeaux’s onslaught. Over the course of he final rounds, Rigondeaux boxed beautifully as he coasted home to a unanimous decision win. Final scores were 80-71, 80-71, and 79-72.

    Irish boxing manager Gary Hyde yesterday won a legal judgment in Miami to manage 2-time Olympic champion Guillermo Rigondeaux. Arbitrator’s Conclusion:

    1. The permanent injunction shall be granted;
    2. Guillermo Rigondeaux Ortiz shall be prohibited from engaging in any boxing match under the management of any person or entity other than Gary Hyde until March 19, 2012.
    3. Rigondeaux, however, is free to terminate or breach the Hyde Agreement and then submit himself to liability for damages, as there can be no specific performance ordered for a contract for personal services.
    4. If Rigondeaux continues to participate in the boxing industry, he will only be able to work under the management of Gary Hyde, pursuant to his management agreement. If he chooses to not work for Hyde, he will be unable to work for another person or entity, as irreparable harm, no adequate remedy at law, and a clear legal right to the relief requested has been demonstrated.

    Does anyone know if Hyde now has any plans to take him to Ireland for a few fights? I know that was his original plan.

    That's what I've been wondering, Hyde said that's what he wanted to do in the first place but Rigo has a bigger name in America then in Ireland.

    RIGONDEAUX IS THE RING MAGAZINE FANS PROSPECT OF THE YEAR IN 2009!

    Guillermo Rigondeaux won The Ring magazine Fan poll of being the prospect of the year in 2009. Rigo arrived in Miami at the beginning of the year, being out of the ring of 2 years due to politics in Cuba and had us all feared he's a too late starter at 29. Legal troubles also came as a dispute over his managerial rights which were won by Gary Hyde earlier this month, but this didn't stop El Chacal for fighting 4 times this year, probably a bit disappointing number if you ignore his difficulties outside of the ring. But he did went 4-0 with 3KOs picking up the NABA 122 title in just his 3rd fight and Rigo looks for a big 2010, hopefully getting a world title opportunity. He's trained by Freddie Roach.

    Im so glad with Rigo and some other cuban fighters managed to become pro's and i hope more cuban fighters are able to do the same.

    I get depressed when i think about all the great cuban fighters of the past that we were deprived of cause of Castro,the embargo or other stupid ****.

    Quite interestingly, in a "hype" interview, Rigo said he started boxing at 14-15, that's the first time I've heard anything on this subject. If it's true, it's quite amazing that he became Cuban national champion (as hard as getting a World Championship Medal) then Olympic champion at 19, just a 4-5 years into the sport.

    Considering the two years of forced retirement, it'd mean at 29, he still only has 14-15 years in his legs, which is a lot less than those who stared at age 6-8. Hopefully that means he has many great years left in him. Good hype interview that is, go find it.

    Oh BTW. Does anyone know what happened to it or where was the spanish language Cuban amateur record page moved? It was here: http://www.geocities.com/pedrinet/index.html
