On paper Garcia's opponent seemed to offer a challenge. Former south american champion etc. but I guess Garcia has more in him than we give him credit for. Want to see him up against stiffer opposition though next time, we need to see him go the distance against strong opponents to really believe the hype.

Pernell Whitaker in his corner!? Can someone elaborate on this? Source? That's awesome but, did Pernell ever worked as a coach?:huh

Guillermo is a bit old, but his style in the ams was very much pro-like, picking his shots carefully and not wasting any energy.

He for sure can be matched as toughly as his compatriot Gamboa has been up to now.
A few years ago Rigondeaux was considered to be the undisputed nr.1 in Cuban's national squad.
I am glad that he has been able to flee his Caribbean island and joined the paid ranks.I am looking forward to his pro debut!:good

Rigondeaux to start vs. Augusto Jimenez!

May 22's FNF will be a big one for Cuba as no less than 5 Cuban fighters will step into the ring. Guillermo Rigondeaux will face veteran Augusto Jimenez, 5-4; never been stopped, at 122, scheduled for 4 rounds. I think the Whitaker questions will cleared during the fight. Erislandy Lara, who fights on the televised undercard of Saturday's Hatton-Pacquiao show will face his biggest challenge yet vs. Jesse Nicklow, 19-1 in Lara's first 8 rounder.

Fellow Cubans who came to Miami with Rigondeaux will start their pro career as well: Yuniel Dorticos, 23, will campaign at 200 pounds. Yordanis Despaigne, 29, will fight at that division as well, although he was a MW at the amateurs, capturing 2 world championship bronze medals. The 5th Cuban on the card also debuting on ESPN2 is 2004 Olympic silver medallist Yudel Johnson, 27, starting at 160 pounds. All of them are scheduled to go 4 rounds.

Don't miss the May 22 show, and for more info on the Cubans, visit JayCuban's excellent update thread here:

5-4 is a veteran? Ah well welcome to the game Rigondeaux. Lara taking on a 19-1 fighter is huge though.

It'll be interesting to see where things go with Rigondeaux. Do they take their time with him and let him get acclimated or does he get the baptism by fire that Gamboa got?
