Who do you favor in this match up between 2 very skilled defensive counterpunchers? Rigo, with the southpaw stance and lethal left hand, against the more aggressive and flashier Guzman. Both at their best I think this would have been a very interesting fight.

I loved guzmam against soto. One of the best boxing displays I ever did see.

I think Rigo was the sharper offensive fighter and they were kind of equal on skill and speed. I got Rigo by decision with exchanged knockdowns.

Joan Guzman, when he was on, looked really something special. His only problem was his discipline and just being a fatass. He had the talents to give even a prime Rigo some problems IMO. Guzman did tend to be more wild on his offense, which can create more opportunities for Rigo to unload on him with sharp counters.

I don't know who this Joan is, but she must be really something if you want to put her in with Rigondaugh

Guzman the bigger talent for me if Rigondeaux was technically a bit better

Default to Rigondeaux no matter the opponent at 122.

You don't think Guzman has the talent and skills to give Rigo a tough fight? A focused Guzman seemed hard to beat. Looked really good when he beat up Agapito Sanchez and Humberto Soto.

Guzman was good, but not Rigondeaux good.

Certainly knew how to make weight in comparison to Guzman, that's for sure.
Rigo was pretty good but definitely not on the level of Wilfredo Gomez.

He got one fight against a pfp guy and outclassed him. Gomez had politics on his side.

Not really. Gomez consistently put on dominant performances in exciting manner while showing heart and grit as well. Also didn't need to rely on winning on points since he stopped most of his opponents. Ended up fighting some top fighters throughout his career even if he did lose to some of the best.

Rigo had one great performance over a top fighter and then fizzled out. Politics didn't ruin Rigo. Rigo ruined himself by not fighting the same manner that he showed against Donaire, Teon Kennedy, Rico Ramos, Willie Casey where he actually put some effort. Decided to stink up the fights constantly and nobody wanted anything to do with him. And when he finally fought another high class opponent he choked and quit. Then proceeded to lose to Casimero and Astrolabio level opponents.

So yeah Rigo just isn't that good when comparing to other ATGs taking into consideration how underwhelming he turned out. He could have proved that he was great but chose not to.

Tbf all the top guys avoided him like the plague after he beat Donaire and he had to move up two weight classes just to fight a top fighter actually willing to fight him I don't blame him for losing motivation after being scrwed over like that
