Are there boxing specific gumshields (mouthguards you may call them)? As in they might offer better protection than standard.

I don't know if there's boxing specific guards, but there's definitely oens that offer better protection than others.

Best are the ones made from a mold of your teeth from a dentist or a company like http://customguards.com/

Then there's 'boil and bite' ones that you can get from a sporting goods store. Generally speaking the more expensive the guard is the better.

The double guards (Brain Pad for example) are good for boxing, they protect your top and bottom teeth and they allow you to breathe through your mouth while still keeping your jaw clenched.

I use a custom one though and will never use anything else again. They're the best.

Get a custom mouthguard from your dentist, there are indeed mouthpieces that are specifically for more physical sports and such.

Over the last ten years I have gone through pretty much every mouth piece available. From customized mouthpieces made by the dentist to the standard junk ones. A couple of my crazy friends have fought with just biting on rolled up piece paper towel since they didn't have one available.

My preference is still the ultra by shock doctor. One brand I have not tried is the OPRO which is also listed on Amazon.Com. This is the only vendor I can find for purchasing them in the US. This will be my next purchase very soon.

    Shock Doctor:

OPRO is the best brand out there! Hands down, this is the best mouth guard available.

I've used shitloads of fairly expensive things with airpockets and fins etc. in..But atm i'm just using a £2 boil and bite one which fits perfectly and gives my mouth really good protection, i want to look into getting a one made from the dentist but so far this is the best one i've had.
