    Read some stuff on him that's out there including the interview for the book In this Corner. Looks to be self taught adleast in the beginning like alot of fighters of that time period were.
    My question is How good a fighter do you think he was? has a few really nice scalps on his record but still spotty but then again alot of records were back then.

    He was tough and could punch but he has a really old fashioned, awkward style. I think he was likely indicative of this period in which the sport was rapidly developing. His style wouldnt have carried well a decade later.

    I am still fascinated by his contention that the Johnson-Jeffries match was going to be fixed and that Johnson only informed Jeffries otherwise a few days before the fight.
