All the promotional materials for this event, like the fight poster, made a point to mention Barrientes in the co-main being ranked #15 in the world. As soon as I saw it was by the WBA, however, I instantly became skeptical. :sisi1

He is about what you'd expect from a WBA number fifteen (which is to say probably not even a top 50 super bantam on the planet :deal:)

Three on the spin for JDJR. 58-56 De Jesús Romero

One commentator is actually recognizing Romero's work rate, pressure, and generalship - but is gaslighting himself by saying "maybe I'm just being sentimental about the B-side". His colleague says he's seeing Barrientes land the harder shots and the first guy says that he's probably right, or at least more in line with the official judges' cards.

The guy who's pro-Romero, btw, has only given him 3 rounds (and is letting the others make him question even that)

This last round was a little closer, but Romero still outworked him.

Hovhannisyan is a KO waiting to happen. If the punters on here want to make some good dough bet against this guy constantly and it will likely pay off big time eventually.

Yep, and bafflingly they put together a highlight package that 100% showcased Barrientes' offense - by that 15 seconds you would've thought he dominated!

I have a strict policy to not take anybody seriously as contender who calls themselves "Big Gug". :sisi1

Barrientes won the first two minutes of the 9th but De Jesús Romero walked him down and beat him up in the final minute.

    10-9 Barrientes, super close

    What the hell?!

Barrientes started looping a bunch of power shots at the head, alarmed Romero and got him backing into the ropes. Barrientes didn't let up, not allowing Romero to clinch, and just kept slinging his long arms roundhouse at the head of Romero, who shelled up, and the ref jumped in.

    TKO10!
