Well, silver lining - he did DJR the mercy of sparing him the pain of being robbed by the judges.

 

How did his brother Chávez Richard "The Beast" Barrientes look on the undercard? Undefeated featherweight... better-looking prospect than Ángel?

 

That was cool of Barrientes to give respect to Romero for making it such a dogfight before leaving the ring after his interview. You can tell he knows damn well that he was a couple of minutes away from what deserved to be an L. (regardless of what it actually would've been)

 

Interesting...they just announced the scorecards.

That would've been a crazy split decision! (and, just as I predicted, a robbery in favor of the young A-side prospect)

Gurgen Hovhannisyan vs. Christopher Lynn Thomas, 10 rounds @ heavyweight

 

"Big Gug" did, FWIW, knock out Colby Madison in five rounds. Madison has gone the distance with a few undefeated prospects (including Drake Banks, as @The Professor scored earlier on this card) and even an established name in Joey Dawekjo, twice.

On the other hand, Hovhannisyan is hardly alone in stopping him - and Mihai Nistor, Junior Anthony Wright, and Guido Vianello all kayoed Madison faster.

Also that's probably Hovhannisyan's second biggest step up to date, behind Michael Anthony Polite-Coffie. Which is sad.

 

Lots of movement from Thomas - who is clearly a heavyweight at a very fat 5'11", but still somehow seems 3-4 divisions smaller than Hovhannisyan.
