It may have been a somewhat early stoppage...but I think you could tell that Gutierrez was on his way out. He didn't even try to hold, he was more focused on not falling flat on his face.

Impressive performance by Angulo...like I said in another thread he reminds me of an accurate punching Antonio Margarito.

nope the ref should have known that there were 20 left an he should have left him get up the floor.at least 1 since that was the 1rst KD

How exactly is the referee supposed to know that there's 20 seconds left? Through telekinesis?

a good referee should have an idea of how much time should be left on the clock more or less

what most fighters got to learn is that you dont brawl with a mexican boxer unless you got the chin, the will and the power to do it.

the stoppage was ok for me, a couple more hard shots on his chin and he would have been out cold.

i see nothing special in angulo he reminds me on margarito a little bit he doesnt get enough leverage on the legs when he throws his combinations especially his punches to the body he is a little faster than marg. i believe but his punches doesnt have the fluid motion tha promotes power he also has a very high output and is very easy to counter but guitierres punches were very wide, when cotto goes up after he cleans out 147 in about 2 ys if angulo is a champ a guy like cotto will expose him i dont see angulo as a future star he will be a pretty good fighter like margarito but not elite

I saw the fight live and there wasn't any instant replay. Robbed of a good fight. The columbian kid can fight on the inside. Angulo has a slow right hand after he throws a punch..

    So..early stoppage or right decision?

I actually thought it could have been stopped a few punches earlier. The accumulation was getting pretty bad.

Gutierrez looked confident at the beginning of the fight, even as far as to go as taunting Angulo, but Angulo kept brawling with him, catching him with everything, even taking shots himself.. As the ref stopped the fight, Gutierrez didn't have any objection to it.. He was getting hit like a sitting duck in the last minute, and if the fight hadn't been stopped, it would have only been a matter of time before he was KO'd..
