Collazo didn't start coming forward until round 3. It's called respect. If you know your opponent can hurt you, are you going to go toe to toe?

If he's "running" and not engaging much, it's because he can't find an opening and/or doesn't know how to create one. It's NOT fear.

    I said I'll concede he wasn't afraid.

I'm saying he potshotted. He never showed willingness to attempt to hurt Collazo.

Fair enough, and respect. I gave Collazo the round he hurt Thurman and the round after, because when Thurman was still recovering, THAT was running. I wouldn't criticize him for that.

Gotcha! I think he showed some willingness but also showed too much respect to Collazo. We'll meet in the middle. :good

The point of boxing is to do more damage than your opponent. There's a variety of ways you can accomplish this feat. We always refer to these fighters as warriors. Actual warriors don't always just come straight at their opponent. They employ a variety of different strategies to defeat their opponent.

It's the same in boxing. You have to ****yze you and your opponent's strengths and weaknesses, and devise a proper game plan that allows you to land the better punches.

OP has a point about modern judging. The 10 point must system is broken. Judges give rounds to fighters who are negative, then fighters will continue to be negative. The sport gets hurt for it.

I think they need to let judges score even rounds more. Right now they are encouraged not to. Probably be more liberal with 10-8 rounds might help too. So rounds where no one does much gets scored even. Round where one guy is negative an the other guy presses the action should get 10-8. Rounds where there is action, but one guy gets the best of it should be 10-9. Of course continue to deduct for knock downs, etc.

Another thing that needs to happen is refs need to enforce the rules and encourage action.

Boxing needs to dump stupid fans who think they know boxing. It's hurting this forum and the sport.

To me there is difference between potshots ing and boxing off your back foot.

What Thurman did tonight looked to me like he wasn't willing to take the risks necessary to punch Collazo hard. So he potshotted disgracefully.

Boxing off your back foot is what mayweather did against Corrales. Ducking, slipping, blocking and then leveling his ass with all your punches as hard as you can.

Why are some of you so afraid to admit when a fighter runs. Thurman
did a lot of running tonight. Collazo ran the first round but turned things around and had Thurman running later on. SImple as that.:deal

No fights are won by one who lands more/better quality punches, that's it.

If the other guy is "running" and he's still landing more punches, it's YOUR fault.
