I see the Tijuana kool aid is being passed around ESB again today. I think its only fair to give Margo credit for his win last night. I'm not one to disparage his accomplishment or him as a fighter. He has a stand up chin, is tough as nails and is well conditioned. But he won't be beating Cotto- not at all. Here are some reasons why:

    1. Margo fights best when fighting someone who stands in front of him and is of the same relative speed. In fights in which he fights guys of his speed, he looks excellent. Cintron fell into this category. He fought a stupid fight. He should have maintained his distance where his power could retain its affect on Margo. Against Cotto, Margo will lose a lot of his effectiveness because of Cotto's quickness and ability to land in between Margo's wide shots. Even Clottey was able to do this. Our collective memory on ESB has become short.

    2. Cotto will destroy Margo's body. Margo stands straight up and does so directly in front of his opponent. He is also a tall fighter with a lot of body to target. Cotto is going to have a field day with this. By the mid-rounds Margo will be slow- not the slow he is in the beggining of fights when he is fresh, but slower, as in telegraphed and falling off balance and getting countered as he lunges with his punches.

    3. Margo throws everything looping, including the uppercut. I saw another poster who said this will be a problem for Cotto. Let me tell you what is really going to happen. Margo is going to throw that slow ass, wide angle right uppercut and is going to eat left hand counter hooks (Cotto's bread and butter) all night.

    Yeah fair points.
Though I keep in mind that in the ring anything can be changed by one punch and nothing is 100% sure.

However Cotto is the big favourite here.

True enough ACB, Margo is going to get tagged by Cotto counters, but I feel he can take it up or down. But do you think Cotto is going to be that slick that Margo will not land his shot? Thouogh I believe Margo will land less, I feel it will be enough to rattle, Cotto make him second guess his attacks. Margo is a great finisher, so if given the oppertunity that Zab, Corrley, or Torres had would be the beggining of the end for Cotto.

Do you think Cotto can take Margos shots or u just believe he can totaly avoid them? or both?

I think Margarito has a decent shot at beating Cotto. Margarito brings on lots of pressure. Cotto has show some signs of "chinnyness" in the past, Maragrito has a solid beard if he can take Cotto's power (including the viscious Cotto body attack). This will be an excitiing fight. I favor Cotto to win, but I would not write off Margarito.

Yeah, good post ACB. I agree. I don't doubt Cotto could hurt Margarito by catching him inbetween one of his looping punches. I recall Clottey doing this and actually stunning Margarito early.

Cotto takes on the toughest challenges. Mosley, Judah and now Margarito. Mayweather wont even get near Margarito.

Margarito can beat Cotto...he's long he has an iron chin he comes prepared to take punishment and he has a crazy work rate...he's going to put the pressure on Miguel how long can Miguel run will be the question.

i think Cotto is made for Margarito and this is Arum's chance to make it up to Margarito for not getting him the fights he should have gotten.

To bad it'll be at the expense of his new cash cow

I would say that Margarito has good, not great power. Most of his fights end by attrition rather than by one shot. His ability to come forward and fight this way will be hampered by body shots and I don't see him being effective in the mid to late rounds.

Margo's power is overrated and anyone that can take a punch can stand in against it. Hell Williams took his shots and so did Clottey. I don't think Cotto will have too much trouble.

I understand that you don't really like the guy, that's fine. But some points here I'd like to address because they don't add up.

One, Clottey didn't have much of any success hitting Margo's body. He had to go upstairs and work extremely hard moving and whatnot to avoid Margarito. This left him a spent bullet by the 6th round. Cotto will not do this. Margo protects his body well and is usually good about keeping his elbows tucked. So I really doubt Cotto is thinking he's gonna have a field day with Margo's body. And the uppercut doesn't help either.

Two, Margo does not loop every punch. Just look at some of the uppercuts from last night. Sure he loops some punches like the overhand right but those uppercuts are right on the money. And that's the punch that will spoil Cotto's plans.
