Guys, in all honesty -- Is Danny Jacobs finished at the top level or as a fighter

Yeah yeah I hated the rehydration clause to but let’s not forget Danny didn’t follow it. Honestly I don’t blame him for that. But in the fight he was satisfied with not getting KO’d and he played it safe even when opportunities were presented. As I said Canelo didn’t have to go into a second gear because Danny was fighting like he was up by 4or 5 rds..

 

I think he's finished at top level. Just doesn't seem like his heart is in it any longer, in addition to not being able to pull the trigger on the shots the way he used to. He's fighting once a year and content to coast through fights. Whatever you think of the decision (and I didn't agree with it) and though Ryder is an improved fighter, a few years ago, Jacobs vs him or Rosado isn't even a contest. He can still earn a good living against lower level guys, but don't see why he would want to become a stepping stone, I doubt he needs the money.

 

Jacobs likes to pace himself and fight in spurts. I'm sure he thought he had this fight in the bag after 6 rounds, but Ryder had other plans, and Jacobs lost controle of the fight. He seems to be on the downside but Ryder is underrated, not spectaculer or flashy, just exremly strong, a southpaw and awkward in his effectiveness. Jacobs is still top 10 but seems to try to do just enough to win, seems to have lost some fire.

 

A large majority thought he just beat Ryder, who is a contender at 168.

However, that fight being run close in addition to Rosado before it shows that Jacobs has certainly not maintained peak form.

I still suspect he beats another cupcake and fringe contender before setting up (and likely losing) a premier matchup at 168.

Agreed, I'm just having trouble figuring out who that premier matchup would be since I doubt its going to be GGG or Canelo. Benavidez? Plant? Charlo? A Rosado rematch?

Time catches up with every fighter...In Danny's case maybe a bit early with what he went through with his battle with Cancer and stuff....Hope he retires and enjoys his life.!!!!

 

This. He was decent to good few years ago but at 35 his body just isn’t what it was. Reflex is slower and punch resistance not as good. It is just Father Time.

 

Man had a close fight with a tough fighter.
He can still make some money but clearly he is not built for 12 full rounds any more like he was a few years ago

 

As a top tier fighter he has been done for a while now. He is now merely a name for up and comers to put on their CV.

 

It's a standard IBF rule. Jacobs got the IBF to cater to him to not enforce the rule for unifications, which gave Jacobs an advantage. If you consider the IBF rehydration limit unfair, then every IBF Title fight in history would be unfair. Canelo's team insisted on the normal IBF hydration limit. Imagine if Canelo's team did what Jacobs did, and got the IBF to eliminate its own rule. We'd never hear the end of it. If roles were reversed, and Canelo got the IBF to eliminate the rule, but then his opponent insisted on enforcing the normal IBF rehydration limit, you'd be applauding it.

 

I'm pretty consistent and accurate. Canelo had a much easier time with Jacobs than GGG did. GGG vs Jacobs was close throughout, Canelo vs Jacobs was a blowout for most of the match. Canelo's performance against Jacobs was truly a master class, can't say the same about GGG against Jacobs, who struggled mightily in that match.

 

Maybe your right bout Hagler, as for Monzons era, not so sure, the likes of :

on paper at least have some merit as worthy contenders No ?
