Hearns didn't do it. Floyd picks guys in lower divisions and fights them. Tommy fought Duran (whom I think you are referring to) and Duran fought at 154 as early as the late 70's, before Tommy did. And Duran won a title there, and that fight was unification.Duran was good at the weight. Tommy never handpicked small guys.

Hands down the most stupid thread so far this day.

To wit, he was challenged by JMM? He fought him ASAP.

He was challenged by Margarito and Mosley? He didn't fight them, and gave a lot of excuses why he should not fight either of them.

In fact, he was challenged by in person by Mosley, inside the ring. What did he do?

    Care to explain that?

I wonder how you can still applaud with both of your hands clinging to Mayweather's scrotum.

From one nuthugger nuthugging another idiotic nuthugger, classic. That is why I love ESB!!!!

Apparently, Mosley disrespected Mayweather that is why he won't fight him!!

I thought he grew up in the toughest neighbouhood and to settle being disrespected is turning your back???

Now, if mosley asked him slowly and meekly, with "please" and "sir" and your royal higness" in cluded in his woords, he might get a fight. The operative word is "MIGHT".

Also, the last time he fought someone his own size, DLH ,he was lucky to eke out a win. Also, Pac built himself up to fight the guys you mentioned. He wasnt that size to begin with. He's taking fights with bigger guys before he is even at the weight. I'm no Pac fan, but I have to give credit where its due, and deny it when its not.

DLH wasn't Floyd's size, he was much larger. Floyd weighed in at 150 and lost a pound or two by fight time. DLH was likely two divisions above Floyd by fight time. And Floyd still beat him with good defense, and clean punching. And took no serious punches in the process.

Floyd has fought TWO smaller guys in his career. Every other fight was either Floyd moving up, or Floyd fighting a guy in his own weightclass. Meanwhile Pac was putting on 10 to 12 pounds between weigh in and fight time when he was fighting at lower weights. And hell, Pac was bigger than Hatton in basically EVERY dimension other than height when they fought. Feel free to check the tale of the tape:

I can explain it pretty easily. He wanted to fight Pac and JMM was the shortest road to that fight. You'd have to say it worked because Pac/Floyd is absolutely the fight that everyone wants to see right now.

Mayweather fighting Marquez after his layoff was alright with me (what he did in those 21 months is another story), but he has to follow it up with someone proven at his own division.

I assume it'll happen if and when he faces Pacquiao.

i think you mean the safest road to that fight. pac was already paving the way for that fight by TKO/KO'ing past PBF's opponents (ODLH, Hatton) and fighting a guy who PBF won't fight (Cotto).

Nope, I mean shortest, though safest is certainly true as well. Coming off a 21 month layoff Floyd had no bargaining power. Beating JMM gives him a common opponent with Pac, who he beat much more impressively (at a higher weight, but casual boxing fans are rarely aware of that), a high grossing fight to point to as another example of his drawing power, and a chance to shake off some ring rust.

Who else would he have fought as a tune up? You don't take Cotto or Mosely as a tune up after a near 2 year layoff, and he needed a guy with a name. JMM had a name by virtue of his close fights with Pac, and being ranked P4P #2 at the time.

And it's tough to accuse him of ducking Cotto when he asked for a fight with Cotto at 140, where Cotto was more dangerous, and was rebuffed by Arum. By the time Cotto was a big name at welter Floyd had retired again.

Who cares, really? Floyd and Pac will fight and we'll see which one is better. One thing is for sure, you can't accuse Floyd of being afraid of Cotto if he is willing to get in the ring with Pac after what he's done recently.

Floyd beat guys at his natural weight. He went through the best in that division. Freitas and Casamayor did not even want to face Floyd too.
