We all know how good Whitaker was, he gets plenty of due credit here on ESB (more on the classic than the general forum but plenty here too) & we have seen him solving virtually every style thru his prime yrs & even a little past his best.... but... which fighters have you have seen that you would give the best chance of beating him that werent a lot bigger than him..... I can only think of 4..... Roberto Duran Julio cesar Chavez (both in their absolute primes) Floyd Mayweather Aaron Pryor Ps. Im not saying those guys WOULD beat Pernell but those are the ones that are in with the best chance, the only ones I can think of that werent too naturally big for Pea. Botswana :smoke
I like Meldrick Taylors chances, but certainly not comfortable calling him a favorite. Would be difficult, even for Whitaker to deal with speed on that level, top it off Taylor was an in your face fighter.. A bit like Mosely with more speed, the same heart, good durability before he was broken.
Mayweather and Duran but certainly not a sure thing for either. we are just talking about a lightweight Whitaker right? cause at welter there's a few i'd pick to beat him
At jWW, Id back Tszyu.... No south paw jWW ever lasted the distance with him. Tszyu mastered south paws... and hurt them badly.
