I think i mentioned the story on here before. I don't really wanna mention names cos there in the game and it may not be true and i don't really know the full S.P. But the guy who told me knows Carl and works in and around boxers especially a certain London promoters fighters, He said that Carl should of been paid more for a certain title fight and his manager at the time took way more then he should of and it effected lad as he knew him since a kid. It must be truthful as if you watch Carls early fights in interviews he's there having his say and then in the last 2 he's nowhere to be seen and Frank Maloney is training him.

Carl would have beaten Mitchell in his prime.

There was an article on Britishboxing.net about Johanneson and his fall out with Mr Manners (his ex Manger) a couple years.Seems as if he was badly exploited and left out hung out to dry. I Haven't heard Manner's side of things but it seems like he took advantage of Carl. Its a dirty old game.

I completely disagree that he gives it the bigun when out and about.

From what I've heard, from very good sources, he is even more quiet after a beer than he normally is and that is saying something.

He has issues he has to overcome and I hope he does.

So does the manager pay the fighter..... or does the fighter pay the manager?

I'd make sure (cos I'm a stubborn ****) that I was in total control of all my affairs, and the manager would be no more than a PA.

Was he that far past his best when he fought Mitchell? I didn't think so but I could be wrong.

Really enjoyed watching Carl fight, tough lad and a good right hand on him. Seemed a nice fella too.

I suppose it depends on the level of control the manager has? In some cases the manager would control the fighters earnings and take his cut, give the fighter the rest? Or the fighter would give his manager a percentage of the purse he receives from the Promoter?

If it was me I would control my own ****ing earnings that I worked so hard to get.

I wouldn't let anybody take care of my financial affairs - but then I'm pretty good with money..... boxers notoriously aren't. Plus I don't trust anyone, at all.

I'd insist on negotiating all my purses directly with the promoter, with all monies coming direct to me for further distribution to my trainer, cutman and so on.

As part of my team, I may employ a secretary (which would be a close friend/relative) to carry out tasks on my behalf upon instruction, rather than paying someone to manage my interests.

(This would probably mirror Ray and Ricky Hatton's business relationship rather than being anything out of the ordinary).

I just don't see the point in paying someone around 25% of my earnings, especially when they are taking a cut as promoter of the show. It does seem odd (to me) how promoters seem like they are the boss - surely fighters should employ their promoters, and hire/fire them as they see fit, according to the job they are doing....

I totally agree mate, complete control. But most boxers arent exactly that smart so they get expoited. I wont generalise though as they are some smart boxers out there. Bernard Hopkins controls his own affairs pretty effectively. Plus you got guys like Nathan Cleverly studying and boxing at the same time. Good on him. Guys like Marquez who ahve studied Law, Matt Mackin also studied at some point. And of course Nicky Piper is a member of Mensa.
There should be more emphasis on boxers being educated and studying. Then they could have more control of their money and affairs.
