Had a few great sparring sessions today until I sparred this guy. He is a much more experienced boxer than me and I started off normally with the jab when all of a sudden he hits me with a full powered hook to the jaw (Got a stiff/sore jaw now) I told him to slow it down, and again he hits me with a full powered straight to the chin (Got a swollen lip) At this point I was like **** it, instead of going after him and swinging at him like an idiot I kept my composure and looked for the perfect counter opportunity, and I hit him straight in the face with a full powered straight. At this point he hits me hard a few more times (He was the better boxer) and he starts to get tired and is starting to clinch me, at this point I give him a short hook to the temple and the round ends. Now since this is boxing, sparring can get out of hand and trying to be the bigger guy I try to tap gloves with him and say nice fight when he pulls his glove away and starts swearing at me like I'm the one who started it and he goes off to the dressing room Did I do the right thing or should've just stepped out of the ring instead of hitting him hard back
Ofcourse you did the right ****in thing, also don't wait for the perfect counterpunch to come to you, counter as much as you can and eventually land something big. Refuse to spar with that guy anymore if he makes you feel uncomfortable.
I'm the type of fighter that loves to spam the jab over and over again. My opponents predict it but still have trouble defending against it. The bad part is, is that my right arm gets fatigued fast due to this spamming and the only way I can set up my left without first spamming my jab is to counter. And I think he will refuse to spar with me from now on, he seemed to be more hurt than I even though he hit me more often
When im tired, i actually throw really slow jabs to show that im tired which will make him think "oh its my time", then i come out with that explosive ending (last round method) which usually end up being a counter. Don't think too much bout setting up the right, if you do so your shot will be predictable. Use footwork to tire him out without you even having to throw a punch, when he's tired you go in, poke, poke, Crack.
sounds like my sessions lol. unfortunately im the taller fighter in with heavier guys/gals that swing for the fences.
