...even if they had little else.

    Who comes to mind?

Ray Mercer- great chin, very durable, decent stamina, good power. Mercer developed a good jab the he either didn't have early in his career or just didn't use. As a more complete fighter he was able to give Holyfield and especially Lewis tough fights. A case can be made that he beat Lewis.

David Tua- almost impossible to drop during his prime, awesome power in both hands, extremely strong, good stamina.

Micky Ward- Great chin, great stamina, good power (especially with the left hook to the body).

does that combo have to result in a title? Just asking because most "tough guys" who get a belt were usually better boxers than they were given credit for.

for what i just wrote kelly pavlik comes to mind with regards to recent fighters. rode that combo to the title but actually could box a bit more than he was given credit for.

Its hard for me to say any of those guys had good stamina because they spent HUGE portions of their fights inactive. Literally doing nothing. To me stamina is when a guy is active throughout the fight and keeps it up at the end. If a guy does nothing for 8 of 10 rounds and then suddenly turns up the heat thats not really good stamina, thats just saving your stamina, and that approach usually got these guys WAY behind on the scorecards in their big fights.

    Bobby Chacon
    Rafael Limon
    Rocky Marciano
    Joe Frazier
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Marvelous Marvin Hagler
    Roberto Duran

Of course looking at their fights where they were in their best shape is when they displayed combination perfectly.

Incredibly rare thing at HW. Rocky Marciano was the most extraordinary example of having all three. High energy and power with a chin. Frazier was a close second.

At cruiser Holyfeild had it but he sacraficed stamina as he moved up in weight artificially.

Tua threw almost 800 punches, mostly powerpunches, in his fight with Ike and there was a lot of movement and positioning going on. When he chose to arrive in shape he had excellent stamina.

In ATG terms Tua was lousy. In that fight with ike they were not all power shots with full steam on them, much of them were mid combination milling blows. Punch stats are a load of bollocks. There is nobody deciding what is suficient force with the knuckle part of the glove on the target area. TV punch stats always include contact with the gloves, elbows, shorts and shoulders. All they record is the type of blows thrown. Any hook is recorded as a power shot, any right is recorded as a power shot... it's the kind of stuff they put on TV for people who don't understand boxing.

I don't consider Tua an All Time anything except in terms of power. He's the hardest hitter I have ever seen first hand. And I agree about punch stats, but that fight was gangbusters and there were many brutal shots landed from both sides. That was what a 225 pound Tua could do... as opposed to a 245 pound Tua. It was an excellent demonstration of power, stamina and chin. Unfortunately, he could not or did not pull this off with any consistency.
