To me these are the two biggies and neither Gan's or Pep ever acknowledged taking a dive. For Gan's even Nat Fleisher said of McGovern, Terry was good but he wasn't that good, and Nat was a huge McGovern fan. On film both Joe and Willy were tagged solid, at least initially with Gan's. it all depends on whether those shots did enough to put them in a bad way, Terry hit very hard but he was up against a lightweight and Perez simply was not a puncher. In later years Pep would get very surely when asked about the bout saying only that he was tagged good and if the question of a dive was brought up the conversation was over.
Yeah, Pep sued Inside Sports for saying he went in the tank for that fight. Pep was definitely hit with real shots. Whether or not he let Perez hit him and exaggerated the effects of the punches is the question. http://www.upi.com/Archives/1984/02...-champion-Willie-Pep-lost-a-75/8482446706000/
Bruce Seldom impressed that much I heard he got offered trials at Man-Utd after Peter Schmeichel had left.
