What guys were the best at dealing with really skilled boxers:

Off the top of my head:

Ken Norton: As evidenced by his fights with Ali, Young, and Holmes, where he either won or was in a point or two of beating three of the greatest heavyweight skilled boxers ever.

Jake Lamotta obviously: Williams, Cerdan, Robinson, Tommy Bell et. al.

    Aaron Pryor

Jimmy Bivins at his peak maybe?

    Brian Mitchell maybe?

Jose Luis Castillo: Two turns against Stevie Johnston, first Mayweather fight, Julio Diaz, Joel Casamayor. Even Cesar Bazan was a very competent boxer.

Norton is a good shout. The problem you had with Kennie was if you couldn't back him up he was almost certainly gonna get in your grill. He also fought really well from a crouch, forced you to punch down (hard for a lot of fighters to do) and punched WITH his opponent, especially Ali.

Harry Greb. He overwhelmed the defense by non-stop barrages...

The obvious answer. It really is amazing what Fullmer was able to do to much more skilled fighters. Causing hell to the the likes of Spider Webb, a man who was to school/beat the likes of Giardello, Tiger, Boyd, Mims etc.

I see where you're coming from, but perhaps that doesn't fit the spirit of the thread question or have put my own interpretation on it?

As a man who retired Barney Ross and has wins over types like Joyce, Larkin, Klick, Wolgast, etc how does he not fit the criteria?

Maybe because he was a skilled boxer himself? As skillful as any.

Mayorga vs Forrest, Pryor vs Arguello etc.. is the type of stuff he's asking for

Ok, let's not do that. He's underrated in the skills aspect by the casual fan, certainly, but he was no boxer. He was a full-on swarmer. Only knew one way to fight.

Swarmers are boxers too, bro. And it takes skills. Not trying to be a bellend, but i think thats what the OP is asking for. Less skilled fighters who did well against fighters with more skill.

ie. Saddler roughhousing Pep's skillful ass.
