Ray was a welter, his MW days were past his prime tho he'd still whomp a lot of the ATG middles hind ends. Plus...were trying to talk eras again. :patsch

At middleweight, Robinson was always more beatable. All his major losses were there: LaMotta, Turpin, Fullmer, Basilio etc, plus some struggles with the likes of Georgie Abrams and Holly Mims. Greb could do it, so could Monzon, Hagler, Ketchel, Hopkins etc. Obviously, he could beat any of them too, but they'd all be tough fights and they'd probably split a series.

At welter, I'd give Walker, Leonard, Duran or Griffith a decent chance. There's no probably though.

Prime Greb beats Robinson pretty easily.

Based on Robinson struggling with far inferior middleweights on multiple occasions.

How did Robinson's MW record look in his prime (many of those fights would be when he was essentially a JMW)? He had his series of mostly hard fought fights with LaMotta and blew out Graziano in beautiful fashion. Then of course the Turpin fights. Which was his other most noteworthy opponents at MW before his first retirement?

Another reason i would have loved to have seen th Dave Sands fight take place.

Ya at MW not sure who i would favor but lots of guys would have a real chance Greb, Walker, Steele, Apostoli, Abrams (who should have got the win when already shot), Burley, Williams, Sands, Monzon, Hagler, McCallum, Toney

Actually i know he fought some at WW particularly Gavilan but the Abrams fight really makes me wonder how he would have done against some elite MW technicians/pure boxers/defensive specialists since his era wasn't rich with them. Guys like M.Gibbons, Yarosz, Soose, Benton, Giardello, Kalambay one of the reasons i like the chances of muli-purpose guys like Steele, Williams, Sands, McCallum who had the boxing and can bang too.

Monzon I've always felt would beat Robinson..Freddie Steele...maybe, and perhaps Giardello on a good night....and I'm of course aware that Joey did beat an aged SRR..I'm thinking he could have done the same ...again, perhaps..to a younger Robinson.

Imo Robinson belongs in that upper tier of middleweights. I think he'd do better versus Hearns than Hagler, and better vs Hagler than Monzon.

Monzon especially seems equipped to win a decision, with his durability, range and strength.
