He deserves credit for finally stepping up against a quality opponent. He showed heart, he showed that at the top level his power is every bit as effective as it was KOing journeymen and fringe contenders. Last nights win legitimizes Wilder's claim as a genuine world class heavyweight and a top 5 heavyweight. He's the clear number 2 now in the division.

But last nights fight also reconfirmed all of Wilder's flaws. His chin isn't as bad as some thought but it's a weakness. The right hand that Ortiz hurt him with wasn't exactly a bomb but he did well not to go down from some of those follow up shots.

Wilder isn't a good boxer, he was getting out boxed by a smaller, slower opponent who wasn't throwing much. This along with the way the very average Washington was out boxing him and how Szpilka was able to take plenty of rounds off him clearly shows he relies purely on his size, speed and jab and good fighters can take that away from him forcing him to rely on his power to bail him out.

Yeah when the ref came in and asked the Doc to look at Wilder that was clearly bull****, the Doc usually does that between rounds after a fighter is hurt they don't wait for the round to start and then bring them in.

Plus I had Ortiz winning on the scorecards like most people but all 3 judges had Wilder winning. There was definitely some home town cooking going on.

Wilder only got $2.1 mill for this fight, money obviously wasn't the motivation for this fight, that and Haymon wouldn't of risked Wilder against a non Haymon fighter.

Haymon's judges, Haymon could not control the Whyte fight..................can't wait for Joshua to knock Wilder out.................should be an easy knockout.............the commentators said that the referee should not have given Wilder extra time, plus, the ref, should have given Ortiz time to recover from being thrown down hard, and hitting behind the head.................still Old man Ortiz, sick as he was, did really well, but the throwdown did not do him any good and Wilder should have been called for it............

I had the first 4 to Ortiz, then 5 and 6 to Wilder, 7 and 8 to Ortiz, 9 to Wilder.

6-3 for Ortiz, minus the knockdown he was up by 2 points after 9.

He's one of the most athletic HW champions I've ever seen. He's very tall, very fast, and has the most powerful p4p punch in boxing. He's also extremely confident and has a killer instinct. A lot of very important attributes.

Resume wise yes. Wilder is top 2/3 together with Povetkin.

But H2H I don't rate him that high.

I seeing Tyson Fury beating him. Joshua. Hughie Fury. Parker 50/50. Comeback Wlad.

Then a lot of threats like Hrgovic climbing the rankings.

But purely based on resume he is up there now.

Some respect. He fought dirty and only cane on when Ortiz who is at least 38 tired.

I know view Wilder as a top 4 heavyweight but let’s be real. Povetkin takes him out, Joshua smokes him.

With bad hiding getting ready to save Wilder if it went the distance it tells me something.

Top 10? You mean top 3?
Wilder, Ortiz, and AJ are the top 3 right now.

He faced the biggest threat of his career and knocked him out.
