Well make him run for 2hrs loosing as much as he can, then fight him anyways. I dont know if being that heavy will serve to Guzmans advantage anyways. Hes not known for his power and it will hinder his speed and movement, what he is actually known for.
What a piece of ****. Nine pounds over is a slap to the sport and the fans. I hope Funeka knocks that piece of **** out.
Guzman weighed in as a WW?! YIPPIE, I can finally make those Joan Guzman vs. prime Tommy Hearns threads now.
the fightis still on... Just in: Tomorrow nights 12-rounder between Joan Guzman (29-0-1, 17 KOs) and Ali Funeka (30-2-3, 25 KOs) is still on but it will not be for the IBF lightweight title, at least for one of the fighters. Earlier today, Guzman weighed in nine pounds heavy, at 144, while Funeka made weight at 135. A deal was struck between camps allowing the fight to go on providing that Guzman does not weigh more than 150 lbs. tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. If Funeka defeats the overweight Guzman, he will also be allowed to bring the IBF lightweight title home to South Africa.
I thought he showed up and was 3 pounds overweight. The fact that Campbell stated that he will fight even if Guzzy refused to lose that 3 pounds, Guzzy refused to fight saying that he was coughing blood or something.
atsch Can you ****ing believe that ****???? I don't think I have ever seen anyone miss weight by that ****ing much. TWO ****ING WEIGHT CLASSES!!!
If Guzman was indeed training in the uk then he must be hanging out with Ricky Fat Hatton at a bar drinking beers.
he does have a history of failing to make weight though. Is Snr still training him because i remember when Snr took charge of Hatton. A lot of people pointed to hatton's weight and Snr's inability to ensure his fighter was on weight following his previous camp with Guzman. Guzman is a talented lad but my god 9lbs is a massive miss it's over a weight division off target. Are we sure it wasn't 9oz
Fight is still in jeopardy. Funeka has the last word whether fight is on or off according to Shaw, Funeka's promoter.
Rafael Concepcion against Donaire. Although that was a matter of 4 pounds (119 for a 115 title), but Concepcion apparently pulled a second ***** move (refused to wear heavier gloves otherwise he would call the fight off). And then the third ***** move (after the fight) was to call Donaire a coward for not fighting toe-to-toe.
