yep, its warren's preferred method for "winning" his fighters belts. basically means arthur won't get the chance to fight anyone approaching world class until some big money unification fight can be made.
My feelings? Im gutted, sad, overjoyed, uncertain & excited. let me explain... GUTTED- cos I wanted so bad to see Arthur get his superfight. Since his Gomez defeat he has re-invented himself as a boxer & as a man, & hes quietly went from strength to strength, racking up title wins, & beating good opponents. I firmly believed his time had come, & he was going to beat Guzman. SAD- cos Guzmans mother is ill. If he had to pull out to spend more time with his mother, that saddens my heart. I just hope she makes a full recovery, & Guzman goes onto prove me wrong by doing well at lightweight. OVERJOYED- cos it looks like Alex Arthur will realise his dream of becoming a world champion, after he was cruelly written off after his shock loss to Gomez. If Arthur gets crowned WBO champion of the world, its proud day for him, & scottish boxing of course. We need another champion after it all went so wrong for Scotty Harrison. UNCERTAIN- cos who knows if Arthur will be able to defend his crown, or have to relinquish it immediately & move up to lightweight himself? & Guzman hsnt given up his belt yet... EXCITED- cos If Arthur can remain at super-feather as a world chmpion its exciting times ahead, with a whole host of 'name' fighters out there to be conquered, both at home & abroad... As for the politics, who knows who is to blame. Its been speculation city, with accusations & counter allegations. At least it looks like we have closure now, & in the next few days we can all move on, cos this hs been dragging on for weeks now.
Well, all I know is that it looks like Guzmans belt will be handed to Alex Arthur soon enough. Who knows what would have happened if they fought, but the fights off now, & the belt should be delivered to Arthurs door any day now. All in all, a happy ending for the scotsman:smoke
he has been avoided big time. He moved to featherweight to get pac, morales and barrera, they didnt want the fight, he moved to super feather to get those 3, they didnt want it, now hes chasing pac and marquez at lightweight.
Seems likely Arthur will now become Champ by default. Looks like Guzman's decision to move up to lightweight will have a knock on effect for another SN fighter as well. Apparently the WBO have assured that Guzman will be installed as the No. 1 contender at 135. If thats the case its not good news for Khan.
My god Guzman vs Khan would be horrible for Khan. Mind you warren is very good at avoiding Guzman could pull the same tricks. Lightweight is a qulaity division right now, would not suprise me if Khan moves up.
With Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez also moving up to lightweight its a deep division. In hindsight Khan & Co may regret going the Kristjansen eliminator route as it doesn't seem to be panning out as expected.
I don't disagree about Khan - could be a blessing in disguise. Doubt they will see it that way though as Khan's whole focus seems to be about winning a World Title this year. Rather than go the traditional or european route they opted to go the easier route and fight Kristjansen just to get the WBO No. 1 contender position. I think that has backfired with the way things are working out in the division. I'm still not quite sure what to make of the whole Arthur/Guzman saga. You're quite right - inheriting the belt is not the same as winning it. Arthur's career really is in need of a big fight so its a shame, win or lose, the Guzman bout didn't happen.
Who Arthur fights next depends whether he actually just gets handed the belt or has to fight for the vacant Title.
The main reason Arthur vs Guzman did not happen on May 3rd, and in June is because Arthur could not make weight, I doubt he wil even defend the title.
There has been speculation about Arthur not being able to make weight for the Guzman fight. 'D.Haye-no1-p4p' also said much the same earlier in this thread - inside source apparently. Lightweight division already getting pretty crowded - even more so if Arthur puts himself in the mix.
Odd situation - Arthur likely to get WBO belt by default but if he seriously can't make the weight he may not even defend it! If he moves up along with Guzman, Pacquiao and Marquez it certainly shakes up both the Super Featherweight and Lightweight divisions. One will be left lacking some good names and the other will be packed with them.
