Guzman is probably thinking **** the titles, they are worthless. I will beat the guy who has them and then fight a big name fighter regardless of titles.

if the boxing commisions had more credibility **** like this wouldn't happen, they deserve a portion of the blame

He looked absolutely gutted at the weigh in, he probably had genuine problems making weight. Then he opted not to try weigh in under the limit because he was already drained and it would have a serious effect on him come fight night.

but don't they usually have checkups? like 1 week before the fight a fighter has to make a certain weight to make sure he is on the right track

    Indeed.

It's very unsportsmanlike of him and his team... while I never was a big fan of Joan, I am a bit worried.. he looked like I said, absolutely GUTTED.. somethings up :deal

I'll blame the ABCs for many things, but this isn't one. Part of being a professional fighter, and possibly the most grueling aspect of the sport, is making your contracted weight. Sanctioning body corruption is no excuse for failing yourself and the fans in this way.

The titles become even more "worthless" when you put yourself in a position where you can't even legitimately win them. How the hell is Guzman going on to "fight a big name fighter" when he won't even be able to tell them that he's the legitimate champ at 135? He wins tonight and he can look forward to another year of training for a rematch, assuming there's a clause in the contract.

He's wasted everyone's time and anticipation, just the way Castillo did over and over. That's on him, not the "We Bes".

Pretty much. Are we supposed to applaud Guzman for "stickin it to the man" here?

They always dehydrate and come in much larger. 3.5 pounds over 135 is a big deal. He wasnt even close to weighing in right. That is almost 140. It is extemely unprofessional to be that far off from the weight limit

I think it's a slap in the face of boxing fans, particularly Guzman fans who have stood by him whilst he was going on about being ducked by the best.

There's a very good article on ESB I think you should read:
