    in boxing today.

agree or disagree? i was watching his fight with Barrios today and he got hit with clean, hard shots right on the chin and did not appear hurt or even stunned. the same barrios who had a prime freitas backpedaling and put him on the canvas twice

Couldn't agree more. Actually Guzman is underrated in many areas of boxing, this being just one of them

Agreed. I don't recall ever seeing him hurt.

Guzman may be the most underrated fighter in boxing

I think Amsterdam once said that this block shaped chin was due to him being the "alpha male".

his power is more underrated than his chin, in my opinion joan has a world class chin, and a decent power for 130.

Another underrated aspect of Guzman (get ready to gasp): power. I will probably be hanged for that comment, but I truly believe his power is better than most give him credit for

cardstars, i don't think that is an outrageous comment at all..his power is indeed better than given credit for. I just dont think guzman digs down to throw really hard shots all the time.

he is very strong physically for sure though

Definitely one of the most underrated chins in boxing and without a doubt the most underrated fighter in boxing today.

He's never been hurt or even stunned by any punches, including flush shots by Barrios at 130. Similar to a fighter like James Toney, he is extremely relaxed/confident in the ring. His balance is also exceptional and if he's in a position where he could get hit he is always ready for it and sees everything coming. He used to walk up to some fighters slowly with his hands down and not move his head just to show how tough his chin is, but he has stopped doing this at 130 so much, especially after getting Floyd Sr.

And like cardstars said, his power is very underrated at 130. He's not featherfisted at all. He had great one-punch power at 122 and obviously he doesn't have it at 130, but he still has good power and will surprise a lot of people in the future when he shows it. There are a few reasons he hasn't scored a knockout in a while. The biggest one is his hand issues. At 130, he doesn't put everything into his punches and hasn't really cared about knocking guys out because he A) doesn't want to risk breaking his hands and B) loves outclassing and toying around with fighters more than blowing them out early. He got rid of his Little Tyson nickname because he said he doesn't think of himself as a power puncher anymore and no longer concentrates on knocking people out like he did early in his career. Emmanuel Steward said that Guzman changed into this more defensive fighter from a reflexive power puncher because of the respect/reputation he was getting in gyms for his boxing skill (it was more than the respect he got for knocking people out). But he said Guzman is too obsessed with outclassing guys now and needs to concentrate on finishing fighters so he could attract more attention to himself.. I completely agree with that. He said something similar to this in the Jauregui fight when Guzman was just embarassing his opponent, but didn't want to go for the KO.

Another reason his KO ratio is tiny past 122 is because he has been facing very tough fighters with good chins. If you take a look at who he's fought lately you can see this is true. Soto - very solid chin and is B+ level skillswise with a semi-difficult style for Guzman, so it would be very hard to KO him. Barrios - one of the toughest fighters in the sport with unbelievable stamina and a great chin.. he was wobbled/stunned by Guzman and that was the one fight at 130 where Joan looked like wanted to win by KO, but Barrios was just too tough. It took a prime Freitas 12 rounds of landing bombs on Barrios to take him out, after almost getting KO'ed himself the round before. Davis - he has a very good chin, the only time he was stopped was 6 months after he turned pro and was thrown in the ring with Edner Cherry, who he was not ready for at all. I could go on.. but basically anyone can look and see he hasn't faced 1 weak chinned fighter in this long string of decision wins.

I see Guzman surprising people when he knocks out Arthur early.

guzman's chin is solid. humberto soto, a big puncher, was able to hit him with clean punches but he didn't even budge. same with barrios who can also bang
