Ya ****in haters. Soto is a bit of a brawler, but he's a decent technician, and he's a tough, and determined fighter with a good punch. This is a guy that would give anybody a difficult fight in the division with one exception. Guzman. Guzman fought for 6 rounds the way Floyd talks about fighting, but never does. It was a good fight for 6 rounds and Guzman's handspeed, style, defense, and reflexes won him at least 5 of those rounds. While he was in there mixing it up, making it a fan friendly fight, he completely took the fight out of Soto by completely taking away his jab. That's DEFENSE. When you take a guy's jab away, they have nothing to set up their punches. When Soto realized that he couldn't hit Guzman with a jab, he just started swinging wildy to his head or hitting nothing but his gloves when he went to Guzman's body. Guzman won the fight by the 6th round. After the 6th he put a boxing clinic on Guzman. For those of you who say he doesn't have power, he does, but he didn't sit on his punches. He chose to box more than brawl, but why wouldn't he? Would it have been smarter for him exchange with a guy who's known for being a puncher? Guzman deserves some respect. I can't believe I thought Soto was going to beat him. I just assumed that because I was being irrational, letting my heart get in the way of my head. In fact, I don't even know if Marquez or Pac can beat this guy. Guzman might have to move up to 135 for some competition. If he does, Juan Diaz will probably get him. Juan has ridiculous handspeed and unstoppable combinations. Guzman won't be able to lay against the ropes like he did against Soto. He'll have to hit and run, and he may not have enough to deter Diaz. I won't bet against this kid again though. By the way, for ya'll Floyd lovers who say he's just a wannabe Floyd. Ya'll are gay as ****. I would rather watch Guzman fight anyday rather than Floyd, even if Guzman does showboat too much. ****, that gives me more reason to watch. He might just get his ass knocked out, but I doubt it. Anyway, atleast this kid comes to fight. *HE HAS A CHIN TOO
I concur...but you will have many who will exaggerate the last few rounds of the fight, where Guzman was showboating, and say he was doing it the whole fight.
ummm maybe because he was actually showboating the whole fight. He really isn't that good, take away his decent speed and he's nothing special.
You can't criticize PBF then praise Guzman for doing the same things in the ring, enough with the double standards. PBF took away Oscar's jab showed great defense and Guzman did the same to Soto.:deal BTW he is a poor man's PBF.:smoke
I was impressed with some of the improvements made in Joan fight game. he did well agaisnt Soto. I thought it was a decent fight against a ver solid opponent. I knew Guzman would win, but didn't know how. He did win with out any doubt and he showed why he is such a skillful fighter....With that said.... I don't think he offers more problems for the best in his division. Guys like JMM and PAC would be able to beat him. I think JMM and Joan would be a more competitive fight than a PAC vs Joan fight, but I don't think Joan beats either man at the end of the day. Soto beat Bobby Pacquioa but not that impressivly and PAC is heads and shoulders above his brother in terms of skills and overall talent. It's a good measuring stick to judge just how good of a win over Soto was. Not taking anything away from Soto b/c he's a very strong fighter and offers many tough challenges to most fighters, but Soto isn't on PAC, MAB's, EM's or Joan level....he's a step below. I feel that Joan is goning to be a challenge to any fighter he faces but as for beating the TOP GUYS in the division I think he'll fall short. He is slick but gets hit far too much to beat a guy like PAC or a counter puncher lik JMM.
Excellent post! I agree with you about Diaz his footwork isn't the greatest and Guzman would give him fits with his movement.
Ummm....if he did that the whole fight, then perhaps you can explain how the shorter man was able to hit the taller one far more often than the taller one could hit him. The height and reach are signifigant in my post because if Guzman did nothing but run and showboat, how could he have possibly been in range to hit Soto, and more often at that? He was in range because he DIDN'T showboat the entire fight. He is a very good fighter. Hey, take aways Pacquiao's power and he's nothing special. Take away Jones athleticism and he's nothing special. Take away Ali's speed and it changes him entirely. Get the drift?
Good observation(except for him not being exciting, I disagree). I'm pretty high on Guzman, but he does need to straighten out his punches(leaves himself opened to counters), and he does need to start fighting for a full 12 rounds. People want to compare him to Floyd, but these lack of flaws are why Floyd is special and Guzman is just a very good fighter.
My guess is that these things won't change. He does throw looping punches, but I noticed he shortened his hooks this fight. The not fighting for 12 rounds may be due to him fighting in the wrong weight class and having to drop too much weight.
