JOAN GUZMAN reckons he has pulled off a major coup ahead of his WBO super-featherweight showdown with Alex Arthur by snapping up the Scot's ex-cornerman Brian Clements.
Clements knows the Edinburgh fighter well after putting him through his paces alongside Wayne McCullough in 2006 for the defence of his European title victory over Sergey Gulyakevich.

Arthur will fly to Vegas before theMay 3 bout at Meadowbank Stadium to link up again with Belfast-born McCullough but his long-time assistant won't be there after defecting to the opposition.
Record Sport has learned that after falling out with McCullough, Clements approached Guzman in a Vegas gym recently and told the fighter he could provide insight into what makes Arthur tick.

The undefeated champion referred Clements to his manager Jose Nunez, who said: "I was shocked.
"I didn't expect one of our opponent's camp members to be in the same gym as us in Vegas.
"At first, I thought maybe he was on a spying mission but we got talking and he is the real deal.
"So Guzman and I talked it over and we decided to bring Brian on board for this fight."

The Guzman camp had a vacancy with chief trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr being unavailable as he returns to work with Oscar de la Hoya.
Arthur admits the move for Clements adds spice to what will be an explosive battle but doesn't think it will give Guzman the edge.
He said: "I know Brian well so this is a surprise. But it's not really a concern and it's going to make no difference to the outcome."
Nunez is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation for this mandatory defence on the enemy's home ground. He said: "It is not only about beating Alex Arthur.
"Joan also wants to make another bold statement with his performance - he wants to be the world's best boxer at 130 pounds."
But the challenger has other ideas and is convinced he will soon be crowned king of the world.

Arthur said: "I feel brilliant and everything is going great.
"I am looking forward to getting to Vegas and I have some top sparring organised which will make me a better boxer.
"It doesn't concern me in the slightest who he's got by his side. I'm going to be in the shape of my life."
    --------------------------------------

Im sick of telling everyone here that Guzman knows hes in trouble. The fact that hes accepting a traitor into his camp to give him tips to fight Arthur proves that Guzman is worried. Alex will expose this mug for what he is.

Do you have eyes? Have you ever actually seen Guzman fight?

Guzman can beat Alex Arthur on his worst night with one hand. Guzman TKO4.

Got to agree with Huki, Guzman is way too good for Arthur and should have him out by half way!

Go Arthur. Everyone is jumping up Guzmans ass... he is a lovely boxer at times but to suggest a guy who hasn't stopped anyone since moving up from Super Bantam is going to stop Arthur in 4 rounds is stupid. Have you actually looked at his record? Agapito Sanchez, Barrios and Soto are the only true world class names on his record. Sanchez was tough and a damn good fighter but not unbeatable and the Barrios fight was a close split decision. Granted the Soto victory was massively impressive but Soto's gameplan was pathetic and he could have made that fight much more competitive with better giudance.

I pick Guzman to win on points but to suggest Arthur- Guzman is a mismatch is silly.

I hope Arthur surprises everyone and bags a win. I think people are over rating Guzman and under rating Arthur, I still think Guzman will win but I expect it to be pretty close.

I hope Arthur wins, just to see if there is the possibility of a Arthur v Harrison fight down the line. But it will not happen, i think Guzman wins and fairly easy.

I wouldn't be too worried about this , Clements has only worked with Arthur once as far as I'm aware(preparing for the Burns fight) and he wasn't even head trainer so I'm not sure his knowledge of Arthur would be any better than just watching tapes of Arthur fight .

Guzman actually shut-out (or lost 1-2 rounds at the very most) against Barrios.

This fight is a true mismatch and will make even Calzaghe Hopkins look competitive.

The judges had it a split decision, although I though Guzman was the clear winner that night.

No one is giving Arthur a prayer but I think he is going to spring a massive shock and overpower Guzman for a stoppage.

I just want to hold Scottish people, cuddle them and tell them to not get their hopes up.

Upsets happen, in boxing as in life, but this fight is not the one.

Man, I have been asked some strange questions on ESB before, but never if I have eyes! To answer your question, yes I do have eyes & they have watched many Guzman fights.
Guzmn has said how he will come over & "rip Alex head off" & how the fight will be "easy money" so you think I am going to have any nice words to say about the guy?
Guzman is going to get beaten. In fact, hes going to be stopped. & I can even predict the punch that wil end Guzmns reign, a left hook to the ribs.
So be ready to shed lots of tears when Guzman gets gubbed. Dont say I didnt warn you!
