I'm not exactly sure why people on this forum expect Guzman who's what 33 now to beat a prime Funeka when he almost got knocked out the first time. Guzman has no answer for Funeka's jab, and even when he does, he doesn't have the power to hurt Funeka. Guzman was landing right hooks on Funeka, and it looked like Funeka was shrugging them off like they were mosiquito bites. Styles make fights, and Funeka's excellent jab, on of the best in boxing, is going to dictate the fight once again. This time, the only difference is that the ref will probably stop the fight. Why the hell is Guzman fighting this guy anyway? This guy's style is all wrong for him. Funeka is exactly the type of guy that gives fighters with Guzman's style, who also lacks power, lots of trouble.
Couldn't agree more. Funeka has great fundamentals and good power. Easy win for Funeka, sans judges of course.
Guzman will win, he needed that fight, had not fought for a year and only twice in two years. Guzman clear UD.
Maybe if Guzman puts some bricks in his hands. Because his punches don't hurt Funeka, who by the way had no trouble AT ALL last fight controlling the distance of the fight with his jab. Guzman will be forced to make his way inside, but Funeka, who is taller, with a longer reach than Guzman has an excellent, and very fast jab that I've saw him double and triple up against Guzman the last fight. This time, he'll put some hooks off that jab, throw some left uppercuts, and leave Guzman even more busted up. And when Guzman did get inside, he landed right hooks that bounced Funeka like a little rubber ball off a brick wall.
Guzman was a magnificent fighter with great skills, but never quite lived up to his potential. I don't know what the hell he's doing at this weight. By now he could of dethroned Chris John and be challenging Yuriorkis Gamboa and Juanma. Like JMM at 147, Guzman does not look good at all at 135-140. He went from Little Tyson to Little Berbick.
Guzman ate himself into a division that he doesn't belong in. He has no power at lightweight and doesn't seem to take a punch as well. I can definitely see him being stopped this time.
Guzman won't be as ring rusty this time around. He will should perform better, however as the OP pointed out, Funeka is a stylistic nightmare for him. I think it will be anout 8-4 in favour of Funeka.
Funeka broke Guzman's nose early in the fight, and Guzman was never the same the rest of the fight. I think something similar will happen the second time around, with Funeka landing that hard jab often and working his way to a late TKO or UD.
Agree'd , but you make a bad point on why is Guzman taking the fight , well you have to admire the man , he must know he lost 1st time round and wants to set the record straight like all boxers should when there has been a contraversial decision . Anyway i agree man , Guzman is world class but Funeka is the real deal @135 , he's freekishly tall and strong for a LW , laser beam jab and solid boxing fundamentals he's a real handfull for the best of them @135 !!!!!
Funeka's just a bad style for Guzman. I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped him, but I'll go with him winning a decision.
