    Sad as hell. Absolute robbery. You can't underestimate the psychological impact things like this have. Could've been triple gold for the Ukrainian team.

    Yeah. Gvozdyk won all three rounds IMO so that was a terrible robbery and had he gone onto win gold in the final, as you say, it would've been triple gold for Ukraine .

    That's shocking, and quite sad tbh.

    I know he has more in him, but hey it's his choice for whatever reason it may be.

    Hope it wasn't Arturs beat down though because if it was, I'd understand retiring :D

    Anyways, it's a shame! Hope he comes back, interesting to watch.

    I don't think he has stated officially that he did or didn't rupture himself but they have meshes for that even if he did.

    What's up buddy? How much have I missed around here lol hopefully not too much with Covid-19 and all that.

    Hope you and yours are safe and well... I've had other ventures beyond Boxing that have taken my interest away (only temporarily :D)

    This is tragic, but sadly I could see it coming, and I can't say I was shocked by his decision.. That's being said, I'm truly depressed and gutted by his decision, because he was one of my favorite fighters on the planet.

    His career has not gained the traction it should have, especially considering his caliber as a fighter, he should have been moved along at a far faster pace.

    But the tragic Adonis Stevenson situation, which has left him impaired and he'll never be the same, that can not only affect the recipient, but also really take a lot out of the man who inflicted that type of trauma onto another fighter as well. Cause them to hold back, be afraid of possibly ending the life or causing permanent damage to another opponent in the future. By all rights, if you are the least bit introspective, it can cause most people to be cautious, apprehensive and fearful every time they get into a ring.

    Then to compound that event, his friend and stable mate Maxim Dadashev dies due to an in ring traumatic brain injury..

    Then follow that up with showing the heart of a lion and enduring a terrible beating at the hands of one of the biggest punchers in the sport, one so bad that it left him with bruising on the back of his brain, and a two day stay at the hospital and months of recovery.

    Those were three signals a family man, who loves his wife and children, who's clearly very bright with a high IQ, to take the hint and get out while he still has his faculties and his health.

    This sucks, but mentally, spiritually, physically and emotionally, totally understandable, I'd probably do the same if I happened to be in his situation as well.

    I believe the Nail had plenty left to give, but the decision is his and I'll always support erring on the side of bowing out a little too early (as it will always be preferable to even slightly too late).

    Great post. I think if his heart and head were still in the game, he would have regained belts. We might be huge fans of this sport but in his particular circumstances, he's made the right decision. Some things are more important than boxing.
