Man, this is the first fight I'm exciting about for a long time. 2 undefeated, prime champions getting it on is something we don't see very often. I too think Beterbiev could brutalize Gvozdyk in a couple rounds. Gvozdyk has to fight the fight of his life here and not engage too much until he can wear Beterbiev down a bit. Beterbiev has those amazing short punches that you don't see often in boxing. If he can get inside, Gvozdyk will be in a world of hurt.
I told him I'd send him a link to a youtube fight the next day so he won't see the results, but he's on like every russian/ukranian instagram page so I know he'll have the results spoiled. I try to tell him that Gvozdyk has more talent than Usyk though Usyk has higher ring IQ, but I guess Gvozdyk just isn't as popular with the Ukranians as Loma and Usyk lol.
He also didn't think that Usyk could beat Joshua or Fury. He hates Wilder so he thought he could beat Wilder . I had to show this fool the Joe Joyce fight so he could see that Usyk can deal with that heavyweight power.
How the **** do you think I feel then? I've been a huge fan of Beterbiev long before he turned pro and of all the amateurs I've been a fan of he is the one I wanted to see turn pro more than any other and I wish he had done so four years earlier because he would've achieved so much more. And I've also obviously been a huge fan of Gvozdyk for a long time too (albeit not as long as I have of Artur) and he's such a nice guy I don't know how I'm supposed to or how anyone could ever root against him. Beterbiev comes across really well in interviews too. Very humble and softly spoken. The worst part about this is not only is one of my favourites going to lose tomorrow night, but there's a good chance they could lose via brutal KO or stoppage albeit the chances of it being Gvozdyk on the receiving end of a brutal stoppage are higher because Beterbiev just possesses absolutely hideously heavy bludgeoning power. But Gvozdyk can hit very hard too when he sits down on his shots and he can take out anyone in pretty brutal fashion if he catches them right.
They're both heavy hitters. I give Beterbiev the edge in power but Gvozdyk definitely has the speed advantage. The way you feel is exactly how I'd feel about a Spence/Bud match up, I was a fanboy of Crawford for YEARS, but I still like Spence more.
Your friend is a crackpot. Usyk handles AJ and Fury far easier than he does Wilder IMO. I mean, I think he handles Wilder as well, but that damned straight right of Wilder's does terrify me for Usyk. I think Usyk could take a bomb or two from AJ and adjust, with Wilder, he might not be so lucky.
Gvozdyk's faster, a better boxer, better legs and superior movement, and a better combination puncher but Beterbiev has underrated speed and boxing ability (even Gvozdyk corrected a reporter the other day regarding Artur's boxing ability, telling them that he's actually a good boxer in addition to being an extremely heavy hitter) and even his speed is underrated too. Most people assume that just because Artur looks brutish and is so powerful that he's a crude slugger who can't box but that's just not true. He was crude against Hot Rod last time out but that was the game plan. This content is protected
He literally hates Wilder. He thinks Fury is a big ass clown but he likes Joshua and I think he had a little PTSD after fatty Ruiz knocked him out . After Ruiz ****ed Joshua up I was like see motha****a this is why Joshua ducked Wilder, but he still shows no respect to Wilder lol. I think after showing him the Usyk/Joyce fight and him seeing the Ruiz/Joshua fight, he has more faith in his countryman. He just thought those guys were too big for him, which is reasonable, and he didn't watch the WBSS.
I actually thought Beterbiev's boxing skill in the Smith fight was brilliant. Beterbiev isn't slow by any means, but Gvozdyk is one of the fastest fighters p4p. Not sure if I agree with Gvozdyk being the better boxer, but I agree with everything else.
I mean better boxer as in he can just box and move all night and outpoint you with ease if he wanted to without loading up on anything. He's definitely the better boxer and technician. Yes his boxing skill was impressive in that fight
I'm eagerly anticipating this one. I'm not sure who will win. But that's what makes it compelling - it's an even match-up between two top fighters. Light heavyweight is the most interesting division right now, with this fight, plus Kovalev-Alvarez coming up soon.
Never seen anyone display such effortless power. He generates so much force from a very short punch, where most other guys (even GGG) have to wind up and recoil.
