Québécois fans on Twitter acting extremely butthurt, tossing out scorecards like 95-95 and 96-94 Lafrenière but claiming the judge having it 97-93 for Onolonuse was ridiculous (as though close rounds didn't abound in this one)

I actually had it 97-93 Onolonuse so I guess I can count this as another time I was happy not to be a judge :coti:

I mean, that is all true, Onolunose did spend long stretches where he fought negatively, intentionally limited engagement and held a lot. But that doesn't mean you got cheated of rounds, Lafrenière; you were largely too ineffective to still be awarded many of them.

Entire card wrapped in under ~3 hours, starting at 7pm.

Guess the Québécois are earlybirds. And here I'd always heard they had such raging nightlife.

You can watch the whole thing @ the same link in the OP.

I'd recommend at least jumping to about the 1:50:00 mark for the Mbilli vs. Gurrola fight (kid looks pretty good, actually)...then for the main event, score along if you want to see for yourself what all the "controversy" was about, then if you feel so inclined & happen to be at least semifluent in French hop on Twitter and wind up all the Canadiens that were crying robbery.

10 PM, great time to start going out, bars close at 3am.

I missed those fights (I was playing hockey). So thanks for the RBR. As for the ruling, Boxing is somewhat not corrupted in Quebec, it is generally fairly fair. Montreal (or Quebec city) is no Vegas or MSG, so the promoters here understood quickly that if they want mega fight, they need to play it legit and fair.

PS: On a side note, please, really please, just use Quebecker (I hope I am spelling it right, lol) like you would do with all other nations. Using the term Québécois is somewhat diminishing (the term has been forged to not refer to a territory and laws, to not refer to any political will).

 I'd never realized it was considered a problematic term.

No alternate demonym is listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_adjectivals_and_demonyms_for_cities

But there does appear to be precedent for Quebecker, as you suggested: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Quebecer

(I'd never heard the latter before)

    Interesting.
