Im 17 and on my easter holidays from school so my sleeping pattern is f*cked and I now realise because of my predicament today I cant allow that to happen in the future. I have not had a proper 5+ hour sleep since yesterday at 1pm, its 7am in the UK and my sleeping pattern will not allow me to sleep until around 11am and Ill need a "good nights sleep". I just tried to sleep but cant. Problem is I have to leave for training at 5pm and im sure my coach will tell me to spar but Ill be way to tired to engage in actual boxing. I used to spar without sleep for 24+ hours and the last time it really f*cked me up, I have a couple niggling injuries, left lower back is pretty painful when I throw any solid shots as well as left shoulder in certain movements but they would be bareable. Im thinking to get a good 8-11 hour sleep and then train at home tonight, skipping, shadow boxing and a 2 mile run. The thing is I have this obsession that not going to the gym to hit the bag, and spar will result in me becoming nothing, this is not regular id say in the 7 months ive been boxing with 3 sessions a week ive missed about 4-5 sessions overall. I always push myself to get to the gym no matter what but today I cant see it being wise (I dont want to look bad either). Is it ok to substitute the gym for homework once? have you done it? atleast ill be able to clear these lingering minor injuries too for training on wednesday.
for gods sake its only a day, fix your sleeping patterns, take a week if you have too instead of wasting months of training without sleep adequate sleep
Some people take boxing training far too seriously for the level they're at. My own personal health or miss a day or two of training? Hmmmm. :think
Excellent post. I commend the OP for taking their training seriously but if you can't even think straight and are too tired to training then there is no point of training since you won't put in a good effort. Miss the training this one day and fix up your sleep and next time don't ever sleep late, ever.
Weren't all world champions once just like the OP? To say take training lightly because your not a champion is ludicrous.
