I'm going to be close to Kent and/or Kingston. I'm thinking of going to George Groves or Yassines gym. Any suggestions would be good or if anyone fancies coming with. :good
Nice one :good Quick google search tells me that Rooney's is affiliated with Gleasons. Seems expensive though. I'll see how far Lynn's is from where I'm staying. Any others that you know of which are relatively close to Borough High Street? Thanks again
I go to The Ring, thats a two minute walk from Borough High Street. Its more white collar though, but its way cheaper than all the others in the area. http://www.cityboxer.com/
Cheers mate, but still seems expensive (or am I just not used to london prices?). Basically, at home, I can go the gym for either £5 a day, £15 a week or £40 a month. There's no 'classes', it's just get in, do your thing and wait your turn for the trainer. Anything of that ilk? If not, then this one still seems the cheapest!
I think you'd be lucky to find that in London. £55 is cheaper than £15 per week, classes are as close to getting a trainer for free as you'll get, they'll give you stuff to do if you ask, but for pads and stuff you need to pay for 1 to 1 time. I'm pretty sure thats standard in the whole of London.
make sure that your trainer is insured, has boxing experience and is qualified to at least level 2 standard for one off sessions. If you plan on having a few or making a go of it level 3. Too many scammers in boxing. Quite a few do it round here and half of them haven't got a clue about boxing or fitness progression leaving you in a position where you need to think about what your paying for. A local trainer here with gives exercises to his clients that are actually dangerous. He doesn't know about periodization, he doesn't understand principles of streching, he doesn't know about correct design of a weights program. This is a former professional boxer. Just because someone used to box doesn't make them knowlegable or correct.
Agree with all of this mate. I've been in and out of a number of gyms for a few years now so I'd like to think I could spot someone who didnt know what they're doing, but you're advice is spot on. There's a lot of people who 'just have a go' rather than know what they're doing.
It cracks me up- all these people shelling out loads of dosh for absolute ****. The guys laughing all the way to the bank. Blagging like mad. You see the guys he's being training for a year and their just the same as about week 6. Everything 'wrong' no fitter, no more capable. I've got about 20 clients, i've had about 6 of them do white collar, only one has lost and he was robbed. I've trained all mine from scratch too and they can box well. They understand the fundamentals of boxing and fitness. All my kids can name every major muscle in the body and i've got a lad who only trains with me and just broke the district 800m record, he's only 14. Proof will be in the pudding when my kids start boxing regular but honest just check what your paying for.
Anyone have any idea what the trainers charge in these gyms? Right now I pay 80 USD a month for membership and I give my coach 50 USD a week for training. We train 3-4 times a week for about 2 hrs. I've never trained in London so I don't know how it works. Do you just walk into the gym and talk to a trainer? Thats how they do it over here (NYC). Or are there classes/group sessions? How does it work if there is only one trainer and 10 people trying to get his attention? I've contacted a few places but it seems like they are offering cardio boxing / group classes and telling me 50 GBP an hour for a coach (!!!!) which is like 100 dollars..!
