Any and all help is highly appreicated. Just woundering if some of u experts can point me in the right direction. I am looking for an old-school type gym or the best competition.
Bumblebee is pretty decent...ok, no; but they're around at least, they used to put out a decent team. There are some others as well, although the Seattle region is kind of weak in boxing at the moment. Let me find a website for you. http://www.boxinggyms.com/
................My old gym, the Al Davies boys club is actually in Tacoma, on 17th and Sprague, if you wanna look that up. That gym spawned talents like Sugar Ray Seales (1972 Olympic gold medalist and held Marvin Hagler to a draw once as a pro), Davey Lee Armstrong (two-time Olympian), Johnny Bumphus and Rocky Lockridge (pro champs, Bumphus was also on the 1980 Olympic team), Little Leo Randolph (1976 Olympic gold medalist and pro champ). The place has its pedigree, that's for sure. They churned out the olympians like crazy. Plus, it's in a terrible part of town, so y'know.........it's "authentic old school" that way.
Thanks! I didn't know the great nw had produced so many olympians! I never heard of Bumphus and Lockridge so now i got some nw legends to research.
Yeah, the Pac. Northwest, Montana; the whole area used to be a big boxing area and turn out a lot of great fighters. It's really gone downhill a big since the old days of the 70's and 80's.
............Sure. Here's a snippet of Lockridge in action, winning the title from none other than Roger Mayweather. One of the cooler KO's of the time. By this time, he'd moved on to New Jersey to hook up with the Duva promotional team, but he started out here. [YT]OxcYHe4Xj4I[/YT]
..............Yeah; I don't know of any big time fighters coming from this area at all since Greg Haugen. And hell, he won the lightweight title back in '86.
Yeah. It's gotten ugly. :-( At least we have a really good fighter out here right now who'll be turning pro (he actually fought on a private show out in Seattle in November); but that's it, aside from Amy.
Good to see another Washington boxing fan. Yeah it is pretty sad that boxing has gone so downhill in this part of the states.
Ya, i never hear of anyone being from Washington state on esb. Im from eastern washington, the tri cities area. Theres only 2 boxing clubs around here, other than the ones in yakima and spokane...
Im with Contenders, ya they go over to spokane as well, i havent gone to any competitions yet, but im looking foward to when i do have my first fight, aiming towards the late spring or summer.
