Full disclosure, I’m not fluent in Fly & Bantam & won’t pretend to be. Heavy: Joe Louis Light-Heavy: Gene Tunney Middle: Carlos Monzón Welter: Ray Robinson Light: Pernell Whitaker Feather: Willie Pep Guys like Armstrong & Langford are going to be under-represented here as they bounced around in weight, but I have both above Robinson pound-for-pound, for instance.
How I would try to define 'H2H goat' myself would be a mix of results over proven elite opponents + how I feel the selected fighter would deal with an entire range of varying elite H2H styles at their weight (pure boxers, brawlers etc). I'll also avoid fighters I think could be here but have too limited a range of film (e.g. Wilde, Midget Wolgast etc). Varying rulesets considered. Open to changing my choices too. Here goes nothing: Heavyweight: Muhammad Ali Light Heavyweight: Ezzard Charles Middleweight: Marvin Hagler Welterweight: Sugar Ray Robinson Lightweight: Roberto Duran Featherweight: Henry Armstrong Bantamweight: Ruben Olivares Flyweight: Fighting Harada Whilst I had many names come to mind, including some posters here would consider minority choices, ultimately I ended up with a pretty generic looking list. One way I like to try evaluating great fighters in fantasy H2H match ups are 'best of threes'. For example, there are quite a few middleweights I think beat Hagler once in a series. However, I would struggle to see anyone winning two and definitely would not pick anyone to win three. I noticed that all the fighters on my list combined: high skill levels + high physicality + deep resumes over other proven H2H figures.

Nothing wrong with any of this really, except for lightweight, where I got Duran, and middleweight. Jones is probably about as special as it gets physically, but Jones has zero experience at anything like a level.
