    I'm leaning towards:

Larry Holmes: He matches up well with most fighters; has great stamina, decent power and speed and his own career panned out in such a way where he fought frequently and defended his title over a 7 year reign. The level of activity won't phase him at all.

Joe Louis: has the benefit of longevity and the focus that is virtually unmatched. His focus in my opinion is far greater than anybody on this list so he's the least likely to drop an odd one; any losses he may accumulate will likely be a result of poor stylistic match up rather than a lapse in discipline.

Muhammad Ali: Great choice given his resume but Ali took breaks; his quality of opposition warranted the occasional well deserved soft touch. This is a little different though as there are no soft touches here. I would expect him to do fairly well though I'm not 100% sold that he'd come out on top.

Mike Tyson: The one fighter I believe is even money or better with just about anybody. But a round robin tourney over the course of 7 years is very difficult for any fighter. He may drop losses to unexpected fighters while beating exceptional ones in devastating fashion.

Lennox Lewis: His size, style, power and deceptive hand speed can keep him in the for a long time. His chin will certainly be his achilles heel. Larry Merchant once said "there may be *****s in his armor, but look at all that armor."

Holmes skills were pretty damn cold. No way he doesn't make my Top 5 either.

    Louis beats them all imo.

Ali and liston are joint second. Ali loses to louis and frazier. Liston loses to ali and louis.

After that i'm very unsure how they'd rank but if I had a gun to my head i'd say lewis, holmes and wlad are all joint 4th. Bringing up the rear are foreman, frazier and tyson with marciano holding the tenth place based on him defeating anyone his own size, most that are below 220 and anyone who's willing to trade but not on the above list i.e. Bowe, holyfield etc.

In a round robin Riddick Bowe in his short prime would win more than anyone else. If this is an elemition tounment It might go like this.

    1. Joe Louis/25. Max Baer = Joe Louis

    3. Jack Johnson/22. Max Schmeling = Jack Johnson
    4. Rocky Mariano/21. Vitaly Klitschko = Vitaly Klitschko

Joe Louis/Lennox Lewis = Joe Louis
Muhammad Ali/ Riddick Bowe = Riddick Bowe
    Sixth round (The Championship)
Joe Louis/Riddick Bowe = Riddick Bowe. I want to comnvince myself that Louis the greatest heavyweight ever beats Bowe who at best is a fringe top 10 heavyweight, but Bowe is bigger and stronger. He can fight on the outside. The key for beating a smaller man like Louis. He can fight on the inside if he has too and what really sets Bowe apart from the other gaint heavyweights is that he can really take a solid punch. Louis has a chance espicialy if he can make Bowe fight inclose. However i have to go with Big Daddy over the Brown Bomber.

If they're allowed their prime selves for all the matches:

    Ali
    Louis
    Holmes
    Lewis
    Tyson
    Liston
    Foreman
    Frazier
    Marciano
    Holyfield
    Dempsey
    Bowe

    In real time:

    Louis
    Holmes
    Lewis
    Ali
    Holyfield
    Tyson
    Liston
    Foreman
    Marciano
    Frazier
    Dempsey
    Bowe

A bit difficult to hammer out a precise order without rethinking and changing it again. Everybody has a different take, as its about as subjective as you can get.

I feel Liston is No. 1

The other 7 in no particular order: Ali, Tyson, Louis, Holmes, Lewis, Foreman, Bowe.

I'm with the guys who say:

Ali, amazing unorthodox style which is hard to deal with and made even harder with his immense speed. Couple that with great boxing skills, good attrition punches, great intangibles and you have the greatest H2H HW ever in my opinion.

Louis, perhaps the most textbook fighter to ever live. Great boxing skills with his methodical stalking style, dynamite punches in both hands. Good intangibles. Main weakness is a possibility of suffering early knockouts to massive hitters. However I think this is unlikely as when focussed he was too good, and his chin gets hugely under-rated.

Liston - H2H beast, telephone pole jab literally. Great with the right hand and the left hook. Good boxing skills, good inside skills, good brawling skills. If it wasn't dancing Liston could do it. Very strong versatile fighter giving him advantages over many of his opposition.

    Ali > Liston = Louis = Ali?

Tyson wouldn't do bad at all either, he would be my 4th pick. He's going to KO a lot of guys with weak chins and even has a minor chance against Louis.

Foreman could be outboxed and stopped by hard and clever hitters such as Louis. However is a nightmare for people such as Norton, Frazier, Tyson, Marciano so gains points on that front. I think I'd select Foreman at joint number 5 with...

Lennox Lewis. Great straight punches with a lot of weight behind them. Solid skillset, main weakness is again the chin however when focussed it wasn't usually a problem. Hard fighter to beat if you're a boxer due to the reach this man has.

Ali is the only one of the champions I'd favor.

In H2Hs, I'm looking at the best version. It doesn't make any sense to look at it in any other way. By the time Liston took the title, he was past his prime. Look at his rampage against the top contenders in '59-60 when he was hungry.

I don't see many beating him. Scratch that. I see one.

In my opinion Holmes would beat Liston.......better jab, better footwork, good chin.....
I know Shavers dropped him, and if was Liston there it would be over......but that wasn´t the best performance by Holmes......

Holmes in his best night against Liston in his best night ?......Holmes by UD.....

Interestingly, Holmes always described Liston as being one of his most difficult fights possible.

    Louis?

I love him, but I'm not at all convinced he takes Marciano, Tunney, Liston, or Ali. He didn't like crowding fighters -which makes me wonder about Frazier and 1919 Dempsey too.
