Yes but how many fighters of the same quality did the others on the list beat? Ali aside. How many fighters did Larry Holmes beat that were as good as Sonny Liston, or Joe Frazier, or Rocky Marciano? How many fighters has Wlad beaten that were even half as good as Joe Frazier, or Muhammad Ali? How many fighters did Jack Dempsey beat that were as good as Mike Tyson?

Most of the great heavyweights are that great because of their dominance of an era, which generally suggests they haven't fought each other - apart from the 70s. That's why it's pure speculation, you based your judgments on what you have seen and how the fighter performed against the quality opposition of their time. Joe was the most dominant heavyweight champion in history, was a genius in the ring and fought some very good opponents. Hence his seemingly universal top 2 ranking.

You take each matchup and put each fighter in the ring on their best night, and speculate who will win.

I one of these belive that if one ATG vs other ATG both at the peak of there powers, it could in most cases goes either way. I know styles and all that plays a part, but in moses cases ATG's have the ablitly to over come that department.

More based on styles than comparative brilliance. Was Louis better than Tua? Sure, but I see Tua doing a Tony Galento x 100, and that flattens Louis.

 

Highly unlikley.

The bottom line is that nobody ever stopped Louiis without giving him a sustained shelacking over many rounds.

There is no reason to imagine that Tua would do any better.

 

I think of prime Tua as a much more refined Galento with an even bigger punch and a better chin. If Louis gets in the trenches, there would be fireworks. All my predictions are gut reactions because we all know any given match-up has half a dozen plausible outcomes. Such is the nature of this enterprise.
