H2H: Trinidad VS Cotto

Tito always lost to someone who could box his ears off and that's exactly what Cotto would do. At least Cotto has a plan B, C, D, etc. Tito came with one plan and that was to plod forward like a zombie from one George A. Romero's movies.

 

Cotto's not in the same class as a prime DLH, and Hopkins. Cotto is sooooo overrated.

 

I like Cotto more but Trinidad wins this: I can see Cotto doing well and outboxing Tito in parts of the fight but I think Tito Catches up with him.

Tito by 8 Rd stoppage to much power for Cotto it would be an exciting fight though.

 

To be honest... I think Cotto has the skills to possibly outbox tito. Tito would not have been able to take all the damage that Margo did when Cotto was boxing beautifully. The problem is, however, Tito was faster then Margo and has much better technique AND MUCH better power BUT NEEDS TO BE SET TO punch, so I think he catches him at some point and on the chance he does, Lights out.

 

Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran, Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Emile Griffith, Jose Napoles and Pernell Whitaker (of 1993) .

Now that isn't a lot of people is it? Also I dissagree with Emile Giffith (really Emile Griffith). Roberto Duran would have to be at his best and Tito at his worst for Duran to beat him at WW. I am a big fan of Sweet Pea but I don't see that happening. Floyd needs to get tested against a hard punching welter, if he passes that test then yes. As for DLH see my previous posts.

 

Cotto doesnt have the boxing ability, the height, the speed, nor the CHIN of DLH to pull of the blueprint Oscar started. Those who say Cotto is the much better boxer either A. Dont remember or know much of the early Tito or 2. Are severly overrating Cotto's skills. Tito didnt JUST make it off his power. He had world class offensive skills, and accuracy, and his hands were faster than Cotto's.

Cotto has short ass arms, and is about 4 inches shorter than Tito was... those two aspects would make it very difficult for him to stay away from the rangy Tito @ 147.

I'm tellin ya... its a mismatch. Prime for prime theres absolutely NO WAY Cotto beats Tito, or even lasts the distance.

 

The Duran that fought Ray Leonard or even the one that fought Carlos Palomino would beat the **** out of Tito.

Tito was a great fighter but Duran at his best was a killer

 

Now I am a big Duran fan and I have seen that SRL fight. The Duran from that fight would beat the Tito from the DLH fight (as I said before Duran at his best Tito at his worst). That being said Duran would have to compensate for Tito's reach height and power advantage. He might even get caught like he did against Hearns.

 

I agree the Palomino win was amazing as was the Leonard victory. Please explain to me when Tito got the **** beat out of him @ 147. Also at that weight only Sugar Ray Robinson and Tommy Hearns hit harder than Tito.
By the way Duran's best was at 135 and yes he was a killer.

If I may get back to the original thread Tito beats Miguel by KO.

 

I did'nt say that he got the **** out of him at 147 , I said that he would of got the **** beat out of him if he had fought Roberto Duran.

I know, I just mean that there is no precedent. I honestly think Duran was probably better than Tito at welter (although this WW peak was very short for Duran). With that I still think that @ their best for this weight Tito takes it. Syles make fights.
