Canelo throws with all his might and is the bigger man, the illusion is that he is Marciano, but that's all it is an illusion, yes he is a good puncher, but he is not Julian Jackson. He was also not landing tremendous shots, Cotto did not grow a granite chin overnight it's average at best and had he been getting pounded he would not have made it to twelve. Please don't tell me Canelo was landing these tremendous shots to justify giving him 9 or 10 rds on the cards. All that does is ****z all over the efforts made by both fighters in the ring and especially the great performance by Cotto. Regardless of who you have winning, the judging was a travesty and ruined what was an otherwise pretty good night of boxing.
The cards were wide but the outcome was correct. Best case scenario 7-5 canelo and that is being generous. Don't cry about the weight discrepancy, first of all cotto never had any business fighting above 152 second he knew he was getting in the ring w a rehydrated 170 plus canelo.
There really is no controversy in this fight. Canelo won it in a very convincing manner. Hopefully the few crybabies trying to make something out of nothing will quit crying soon.
I don't get the drama, at all. I had no horse in the race and I had it wide for Alvarez, very wide. Alvarez landed the cleaner and harder shots in just about every round, and was unmarked. Cotto landed little more than jabs and weak crosses, and was banged up and stunned a few times. The body language alone was an indicator of who was winning.
Canelo landed the harder shots. Were they great punches? Not really, just harder than what Cotto landed that night. They didn't particularly bother Cotto, and at the end of 12 rounds neither fighter looked much worse for wear.
