I have to admit, I never really went with the "Leonard fought the wrong fight" explanation, myself. Duran was the embodiment of a 'controlled frenzy' (if that's not too much of an oxymoron) in their first encounter.

The idea that Leonard used the wrong tactics has been somewhat bolstered by (possibly borne out of) the outcome of his second match with Duran, precipitating a slightly skewed hindsight on their tussle in Montreal.

But, I think Leonard had little choice but to try and out-fight Duran; choosing to counter from a defensive shell would have been disastrous, surely?

Floyd let his hands go plenty at 140 and below. But fight like Duran? Would be a huge mistake

It does make me laugh when people don't translate the 'stomach cramps' thing into what that potentially meant in real terms.

I can't think of many more cripplingly embarrassing moments than if one were to have lost control of their bowels in a Boxing ring - as a competitor in a marquee world title fight, no less.

Oh the SRL found the wrong fight thing again, this has been debunked hundreds of times.

With each attempt as completely unpersuasive as the last...

That's your understanding of what happened? He quit because he was afraid he was going to **** himself? And nobody in his corner knew he was distressed at all...?

I was talking about the debunking, not your argument. You're correct though, it's very unpersuasive.

It's not only unpersuasive, it's pretty boring.

SRL himself said that Duran imposed himself on him that night, and yet Kevin and his co-conspirators would have you believe that SRL lied, with no apparent motive.

Just like the rematch, SRL won it fair and square, and he deserves all the credit in the world for getting back in the ring, but don't gloss over the fact that he orchestrated a rematch under the conditions which were most favourable to him, when he out and out said as much.
