No argument, but when I fought in the Amatuers, I just had fun. Fighters like PBF and RJJ were having fun. Actually, PBF was still having fun and making the biggest purses ever at the end. Maybe you are right, but I hope your wrong so that he will return. You don't go to a sport to be stressed or drained. If I could be paid to play baseball, basketball, tennis, etc., I would play until I was thrown out. When your taking beatings like Oscar, then yes. PBF was not and he sure looked like he was having fun. As far as making that money like you said, sure after he was made by Oscar and Hatton. He should now give us fight fans some good fights if he returns.
That's gotta be nice to have a ****in' sweet little financial back-up plan like that though. He falls into a financial **** pile all he has to do is come back for another fight, and it's gonna pay out like a motha****a.
or, maybe he would have gotten beat since the first one was so close. not taking the fight was, I think, the biggest miscalculation in the history of the sport, considering the amount of money he would have made, and the not too overwhelming task at hand. Floyd, I think, is starting to clue in that he does'nt have the money he thinks he does, unfortunately for him, he missed out on a mega payday. Floyd fans get to gloat in fantasy threads. Pac fans get to triumph in reality threads.
word on the street is that floyd owes 7 figures to some of the businesses here in Vegas. To extend that kind of credit to someone is ridiculous. He'll be back. Ain't nothing wrong with taking a break from the biz and enjoying life.
yeah but you have to think about what floyd is doing has a full family ( his own ) a bunch of groupies family issues (between his father n stuff) the pressure of being floyd..... high expectations and "the villain role" if floyd wasnt comfortable with that villain role he chose to play it may have created a lot of pressure on him and he may have just needed some time away from it to get his mind right before he comes back...... once you get to a certain point things become so routine that its not fun anymore .. it almost becomes a job and if it was like that for floyd good for him to get away and take a breath and relax .. either way hell be back.... but it definitely wasnt a "ploy for money" if it was just about the money we would have already saw floyd fight margarito & cotto already
I think he decided against the rematch because there was a lot of criticism on it. For being such an "event" that Floyd vs. DLH was, the fight was a bore. And the talk of a rematch just made people cringe. Since Floyd was always looking for public approval, the rematch criticism, combined with the fact that he wasn't defending his title to the dangerous WW's, it was easier to retire then risk a public flogging or a loss.
Honestly, no! Reason number one is because for the first match, & definetely for the rematch, i dont think DLH would've went down to 147 for PBF. Reasn number two is because I think in PBF's mind, adding another weight class & belt in another weight class to his list of boxing accomplishments is more valuable than a knockout in a weight class he's already had success in.
