Would you say that the fight would've been over or under 3 rounds?

    Wait a minute.
Does anyone remember Jones catching criticism for fighting Hall, Telesco, Harmon, Glen Kelly, and numerous others?
Back then people weren't saying "Roy Jones: All Time Great". They were saying, "Roy Jones: untested Great Fighter". Then they would go on to mention his opponents in a derisive manner.
When Jones opted to fight Ruiz people were saying, "why not fight a legit heavy?" Ruiz was slow, just marched forward, and never had a high punch out put.

Clinton Woods was giving Jones some trouble in that fight. His activity seemed to bother Jones at times. How would that Jones do against Calzaghe? That was supposedly Jones in his prime.
Since it wouldn't be fair to count his fight against McCallum. Jones being 13 years younger than Mike. Oh but fans of Roy do consider that one of his wins over a great fighter. Jones was 27 and McCallum was 40 and at the tail end of his career. But these same people will cry foul towards Calzaghe for fighting a man 3 years older (THREE YEARS).

Then not missing a beat they'll say, "how dare Calzaghe consider his win over Eubank to be anything of significance.... Eubank was an old man".

We look at Jones as being one of the best of all time now.... not then. Back then we weren't saying that.

Harding wasn't considered a great. And he tore his bloody bicep in the 2nd round. So, aside from James Toney. Who is that win that makes Jones this all time great? Hopkins?
His win in 1993 over Hopkins. Sorry chaps, but in 93 Hopkins wasn't consider to be THAT good. They were fighting for a vacated belt. Hopkins wasn't considered to be THAT good in 97. Hopkins was considered to be great much later into his career.
The Hopkins that Jones fought in 93 was nowhere near as crafty as the Hopkins of the 2000s.

The only trouble Jones had against Clinton Woods was deciding whether to land combinations at will to either the head or the body. The fight was in no way competitive. Jones dominated every single round.

    That's not true.
I'm saying Woods gave him more difficulty than he faced in earlier competition. Listen to the fight yourself. The commentators are quite explicit with it.
Woods would get Jones against the ropes and land on him. Something Glenn Kelly, Telesco and others couldn't do. Because those guys weren't even consider legit threats.

You're acting like those wins are meaningful. They weren't then, and Jones was regularly called on it. It's only now that people are talking about him being an all time great.

If it were the Roy Jones of the Griffin rematch and Calzaghe were Montell Griffin, the fight would've been over in under 3 rounds.

How am I acting as if those wins were meaningful? I didn't even mention his wins over guys like Kelly and Telesco.

And I know is that I watched the Jones match with Woods not too long ago and Jones won every single round with ease. He essentially toyed with Woods throughout the whole fight and hurt him numerous times.

What if Roy was the creature from Cloverfield and Calzaghe was Wall-e, and the year was 1993?

But of course, being that Calzaghe wouldn't be Montel, I see it probably going the distance. 9-3, 8-4, or 7-5 for Roy.

A KO is possible, but less likely.

Montel was shitting his pants and in retreat from the opening bell.

He knew that Roy was bringin' an ass-kickin with him.

I've never seen Joe act like that.

He would beat him up not as bad as some think IMO but still a clear win. Thing is though it aint 1997 anymore so I wish this threads wouldnt come up right now it just makes everyone look like **** poor losers. Roy can live with it why cant his fans ? I didnt hear of man you know if it was 5-10 years ago id take Joe to school or anything.

Sorry guys, Montell beating Toney doesn't make Montell a great. Stylistically it favored Montell.
Going into their first meeting Toney wasn't taking him seriously. Montell's stock rose after his shock win over Toney.

I still blame that RJJ for all the boring fights we got afterwards.

I still remember Roy blowing Griffin out and then saying afterwards that he never wanted to do that again.

    Damn you Montel Griffin.
