Is there a chance that the results could've possibly turned out differently for any of Tyson's former opponents? Opponents such as Spinks Tucker Thomas Tillis
Tyson would beat up Spinks with one hand on any night. Just to much power and less length to deal with than other 6'3 plus guys. I dont believe he would play around with Tillis and he k.os him ,he would also be rematching Tillis and i cant see that going past 4 rnds. He probably decisions Thomas and loses to Tucker in a boring decision loss. The main differance between Douglas was a great 83 inch jab that kept Tyson at bay, other than Tucker the others wouldn't have that size and technical abilities to them to keep tyson off them early ,he would most likley go for the kill to lesser punchers and easier targets.
I would have beat tyson in tokyo. Guy started the very 1st round lethargic and it pretty much continued the whole night. I still say buster got him on the right nite to this day. Credit to buster he went out and got the job done tho.
We re not talking about the same tyson from his run from berbick to spinks imo. Its stupid to believe it was. His problems started the first time he was out the ring for a prolonged period for the first time in his career just prior to bruno. Sure he had injury problems cause the fight was postponed had problems with givens etc. Ended up having 8 months out the ring. Left his trainers etc. They even had a strategy to keep him fighting every few months to keep him out of trouble outside the ring. His bad life decisions just caught up with him that night. By the time he got to douglas he wasnt prepared for it. After reading his book it was always gonna end that way for him. Still believe the biggest mistake he ever made was getting rid of his trainers. The guys that followed never really ever understood the d,mato style of training.
Put Tyson in with anyone not named Douglas, Holyfield and Foreman and there's a good chance he beats them all. Put Douglas in with any version of Tyson and there's a very good chance he wins, that's how one sided the fight was......
Douglas was a one off that night and Tyson wasn't expecting the challenge of his life so barely trained, that's why it was so one sided. Mikes fault but doesn't change he was under his usual performance level. Any other unmotived version of Douglas would get flattened early. The Douglas version of Tyson was still durable though, so it would have taken a lot of punishment for the ko. I don't think any of those fighters would get the ko but he could get out pointed. I give buster credit as Tyson still had some power when he could land but his timing seemed off so he could be neutralised as lot easier, Tyson was dangerous though, still looking for an opening.
If he met any of those guys in Tokyo he would probably have beaten them. The tucker fight would possibly be the toughest but tyson still wins by decision. The reason Douglas beat tyson is because of the often mentioned personal trouble s going on in buster s life at the time. I think Douglas wanted it so badly that night he would have gone through hell to win. Not saying that Douglas would have lost to tyson at any other time in his life but that night winning that fight was important to him. So in my opinion tucker, tillis and Co would not have beaten tyson in 19901
Great post. If Tyson was a car,he was speeding out of control, with nobody at the wheel. It was just a question of what he ran into and when. He hit a lampost called Buster Douglas, then a brick wall called Desiree Washington.
Put the best version of Douglas in with the best version of Tyson and there's a very good chance Douglas beats him.
How do you know he barely trained? He looked in pretty good condition to me don't you think..... That one off performance from Douglas was always achievable had he been more dedicated.
It's an interesting one. I do agree with you, however if Tyson would have got the fight and not Holyfield, Tyson would have knocked him out and we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.
I can't believe the vast majority of people believe any other version of Tyson would have blown through Douglas. The man destroyed him and boxed his head off for near enough the entire fight. I've said this before, in a way the Douglas loss helped preserve his legacy.
