I was truly almost impossible to beat me by decision. Lost 4 or so decisions, too close to call in over 150 bouts. Was kod several times, but only by the best. My great career was cut short. Who am I ?
Gonna ask you some questions that might be boring to you. What did you think of a young Mike Tyson? Pernell whitaker?
Well if it's not Larkin or Tiger Flowers I will leave it for someone else to get as I am on the way to an Amateur Boxing Show.
But yes it was the great southpaw Tiger Flowers, who had 161 bouts, in which he lost 4 or so close decisions to Greb, Walker, McTigue, Leo Lomski. But he was kod by Jack Delaney [2], Kid Norfolk [2], Jamaica Kid, and some guy by the name of Sam Langford....He died one year after his great rival Harry Greb in 1927,at a hospital after surgery to remove scar tissue from his eyes....:good
When Tyson was young,I thought he would be a threat to any heavyweight who ever lived. A bullish dynamo. But he had a too short run for whatever psychological reasons, and it hurt his alltime legacy... Whitaker in retrospect was a great fighter who had a unique defensive style. Great for his times, but I believe a Henry Armstrong, or a young Beau Jack, both strong relentless swarmers, would somehow overwhelm Whitakers defense and whip him. You can only avoid a certain amount of punches and Armstrong, and a Beau Jack fired away for the full 15 rounds... And these guys along with an Ike Williams, Bob Montomery, Freddie Dawson, had 2 or 3 times as many bouts as Pernell. But Pernell was great...
I think Whitaker could beat anybody in his weight class(es) today, including Pac and Mayweather, but in the big picture of boxing past, I have to agree with burt....there were animals back then who would have beaten him.
D usual boxing forums' belief : losing is OK as long as it is by KO / brutal stoppage . losing a decision is a disgrace that can't b erased even in hell . Not 2 mention those decisions in which 1 doesn't know who really won , losing them is d lowest of all depths .
